They have an obvious disadvantage though - they're not easy to remember. Hell I don't even have most of my friends' phone numbers memorized, they're all in my cell phone.
Of course it's not often that you'd NEED to remember someone's ICQ number when you're away from your computer, but I don't see any real advantage to using numbers over using usernames either.

I just pointed out one obvious advantage. Usernames are easier to remember. Hell I was going to try out ICQ again recently but I couldn't figure out what my number is.
