Do you hate making eye contact with people?

I do make eye contact with people in conversations because it's good etiquette, but I do feel uncomfortable most of the time.

It also makes it easier not to stare at *ahem* other things.

For the most part I make eye contact but will occasionally look away if I have to stop and think for a moment.

I was raised in Puerto Rico and people there are accustomed to looking at you directly when speaking. The reason why the word "mira" meaning Look in english is used when people want to speak to you or get your attention.

From what I have seen and experienced In the USA, children are often told "Look at me when I'm talking to you" when they are in trouble and in PR children are "usually" taught to lower their head when they are being lectured or in trouble.

note: this is based on personal experience so don't bite my head off if you disagree.
Then again this is atot...getting attacked is inevitable.

Anyway, eye contact is very important in job interviews and how the "professional world" preceves(sp) you so I would try to get comfortable with it - it will help in pretty much any chosen career

A socially adjusted adult should be making eye contact during conversations. If you don't, you should be practicing - especially if you want to move up in the business world. Not making eye contact is a big sign of a soft-spined wimp.
