i run 2kpro on my main rig and media center 2k5 on my htpc...i used to run 2000 on the htpc...and for older systems it seems to run better...apps pop up a little quicker, system just seemed more responsive...however on a higher end system i think xp would be virtually indistinguishable from 2k, except for boot times...but i dont plan on upgrading my main rig to xp anytime soon...just dont have a need to...2kpro is rock stable for me...my comp stays up 24/7 and its been up this time around for a month or so...no loss in performance i can see....however the xp box seems to get slower after its been up for a week or more...but then again it is quite a bit slower than this comp...maybe if i had two identical systems to install both oses for a month i might be able to give an opinion...but basically i say if you have 2kpro, and dont have any apps that require xp...theres no need to upgrade right now...unless you just want to

if windows crashes all the time its the USER not the OS...
cause I do this for a living and XP does not crash all the time unless the user fvcked something up or is just a retard in general...

that happens with both though.. they are both NT5...

I love 2000, but recently an all patched up XP works good too.

It's hard to say, for a work environment, I still think 2000 is a little better, but it's getting tough to call thesedays.

I've been using XP on one of the computers on my desk for nearly a year now and I still can't think of anything I like about XP over 2K. Near as I can tell, Microsoft just did a study of everything people found irritating in 2K and added more of that to XP and then looked at anything someone might do often and made it take an extra step or three.

Other than that, I've had a lot more trouble with driver issues and incompatibilities under XP than I've had under 2K, but I suppose it's an okay OS for someone who is mostly interested in animated puppies and doesn't need to get any work done or use any applications.

I have a user that didn't reboot for almost 90 days. His password expired and he hasn't rebooted since his last reset. I logged on to his machine and looked at the time, 89 days.

Not bad for a user...

I like my Win2kPro install. Runs perfectly.

Uni has Win XP but I don't really do a lot of stuff on it.

So I really haven't used XP Pro much. I'll stick to what works and that won't cost me extra £££.

My 2kPro install is almost 3 years old. It's been through 3 service pack updates, 3 cpu upgrades, 2 motherboards, and 4 primary hard drives, while always on overclocked systems, and is still rock solid stable, never crashes and always boots right up (though I rarely shut it off or reboot it). Beat that with your XP install.

Sounds like PEBCAK. On the rare occasions when I have had trouble with a 2k install booting (never on my personal rig), I have found that all you have to do is boot to your Win2k disk and go to the Recovery Console. chkdsk, fixboot, good to go. In times of total OS disaster, you can use the emergency repair process, which does not exist in XP.

I personally like XP better because I can customize the style to my liking.

I like XP better than any previous MS OS.

It's only vulnerable because it's the most used, doesn't matter what OS it is, the most popular one will be targeted maliciously.

Did you know that ME,9x,and 2k does not need a patch for hd bigger then 120gb?
XP= NT,2K with some feature taken out. SP1 does not fix anything it just their to make piracy harder forcing people with 160gb hd or larger to patch it, SP2 is another fix stop piracy completely. Good for MS? Y, sp2 can go fvck itself, piece of gargabe coming from an arse of MS programmer needing to make changes to your OS.
