If you don't have a 2 year old in the house you wouldn't understand.

Having those knobs up high is nice.

Speaking from the personal experience of having a child of my own and shopping for a new stove I've found that, a) Most people have children, and b) Most stoves have the knobs mounted on the front.

It may be nice but it isn't really necessary. In fact, I can think of some compelling reasons not to have them mounted away from the front of the stove actually. Reaching over a gas flame to adjust the heat with baggy clothes on comes to mind.

Mine are on the right - I can't recall ever coming near the burners with my arm. I suppose, of course, that if you were left handed, this could be an issue if you tried to adjust with your left hand. But, I don't like the knobs on the top for this reason: it's too easy to bump them with something hot while sliding larger pots around.

No way I am getting gas cooktop with the control to the side. I will find a way to set myself aflame.

Mine are on the front.

No way I'd have them anywhere else. I don't like reaching over burners, nor even coming close to it.

We have a 5 burner gas stove with the controls across the front. A friend of mine is a total control freak so when he and his wife had their first child he went out and replaced a perfectly good stove because the controls were across the front. I just taught my son not to mess with the stove and he is 11 now and hasn't managed to burn down the house or kill himself or us yet so I guess we're doing something right.

The cooking surface has four burners, one in each corner, with a large central burner and a griddle top that is removable. We use it for pancakes sometimes but you could put a large pot over the grill insert and cook lobsters or a huge pot of pasta or soup or something I suppose.

Like this one:

I'm pretty happy with it and I prefer to cook with gas so it is perfectly fine for our needs.

We have an LG much like this. Love the grates, and the burners put out plenty of heat, but LG skimped on the details; we've had two warranty calls on both the range and microhood. Crappy knobs (inserts broke) and stainless faceplate on the micro is put on with cheap adhesive that (imagine this) softens and lets the plate pop off. Both repairmen who came out said they get more calls on LG than any other brand. Best? GE & Bosch.

Trying to figure out what store rhymes with pears (pairs)...

Sears? (seers)... no, that doesn't rhyme
Best buy? nope..
lowes? uh uh.. not even close.

Sears.. Should have said peers. My mistake.

I have 2 more chapters in the saga since posting that now that I am trying to get refunded, but will not post as I am tired of the whole ordeal.

Sears card was great to get an extra 10% off and they stack discounts like crazy, but now it is just not worth it anymore.
