People who don't get tattoos don't usually think they are making a political satement though.

It's sad to see people permanently mark their skin with something trendy. I've seen some awesome tats too, but I don't think I'd ever get one. If I were though, for gods sake I'd make a design myself that reflected something about me. I've been to a tattoo place that refuse to do things they've done before, ala the huge notebook of pics they have. Nice idea, I think, but loosing out on a bunch of business from those who want what everybody else has.

Zanix is right. Never get a Tattoo off the artist's wall. Either bring one in that you found somewhere but is relatively unique or make it yourself.

And as for the individuals thing, that argument is retarted. Not everyone gets a tattoo to make a statement or be an individual. Anyone who does somthing for the purpose of being different does not qualify as an individual. An individual is someone who does what they WANT regardless of who else does or does not do it.

also someone mentioned only getting tattoos you can cover up with clothing. while it's short of tattoos... i have 2 fairly large rings in my face. 10g ring in my setptum and lip and still have no problems landing steady IT contracts. i also have a branding on my left forearm... but it just looks like a scar so usually ppl don't even notice it.

usually if an employer attempts to pressure me into taking out my jewlery i just tell them that maybe i should go ahead and call it quits then... as i don't like working in offices with mindsets such as that.

and usually they buckle.

Yup...and I love it. I came up with the design idea, roughed it out on paper and worked it all out with the person who did it. The final design she came up with was awesome; it's not "cliqueish" but unique and all mine!

I, too, used to say I will never get a tattoo. Never say never...
