Do you have an E-Reader and a Tablet?

I have an old PRS-500 which is getting long in the tooth. I'm tempted by the Kindle Paperwhite, but I'm also considering a new iPad. I'm worried that and iPad might make the paperwhite redundant. I have always been a proponent of e-ink, but I was wondering if any folks have both and does one sit unused?

I'd say it all depends on how much reading you actually do. Reading on an e-Ink screen is going to be easier on the eyes, easier to hold through long reading sessions, and much better battery life but on the other hand it's easier to only have to carry one device with you that does everything.

I like having both. Tablet is useful for more things, but typically more expensive. I wouldn't want to risk my kindle fire hd on the beach for example, but i'll risk a cheap $60 kindle reader.

I have both. I definitely say it's worth having a dedicated e-reader for long reading sessions. It's super light, has insane battery life, and it's easier on your eyes.

I have both and they end up being used for different things. I enjoy reading on my Kindle but the browser and other functions are pretty much useless so I move to a tablet for those other aspects. Reading text on e-Ink is way easier than reading text on any LCD.

I miss my now-dead Kindle. (2nd gen.) It let me completely forget about battery and power adapter. There was something so refreshing to take an electronic device to a vacation without worry about running out of battery. When will we have a tablet/phone that lasts weeks (or months) with a single charge?

Having said that, I did not buy another Kindle. It feels redundant to have a tablet and a Kindle together. But for anyone who's a devoted book reader I wouldn't hesitate recommending a Kindle.

I have a Kindle Paper White and had a Nexus 7, sold that and will be replaced with a Nexus 10 in short order.

Not sure how much new ground there is to cover here, so I'll just agree that it depends on how much reading you do. If you're like me, and might spend 2 or so hours a day reading, your eyes will probably thank you for getting an e-reader. If you only read in brief random spurts, a tablet might well be better.

Have both, only really use e-reader. I found a tablet to be somewhat useless since I can do most the same things with my phone instead.

I have both and have been using my tablet more...but not to read books. If I had more time on my hands, I would use my e-reader more as I would spend a lot more time reading. The tablet is used for magazines, internet, and video.

I have the Nook Touch and just bought a Nexus 7. For e-book reading, I use the Nook Touch hands down. It's just easier to hold in one hand and much gentler on your eyes when reading for extended periods of time.

Nexus 7 = RSS news reader, couch tablet, and occasional e-reader (I store my e-books on dropbox).

I have a Nook Simple Touch and an Asus Transformer. I'm an advocate of e-ink readers for battery life, weight, and ease of reading. I wouldn't want to haul my tablet everywhere just so it's there in the event I have some time to read (like on the bus) and I wouldn't want to hold that thing in reading position for very long, but I have absolutely no problem doing that with the Nook. Charge it up and throw it in my backpack and it will be ready for me for up to 2 months (I think that's the stated battery life). Much more convenient.
