My 35 yr old townhouse. Been in the place less than a month and wife is having allergy / asthma attacks that are getting worst even after having head stuff cleaned.

Mold in your house perhaps? I have seen new houses get that issue within a few years, many houses are just crappy built these days.

I go back and forth on this. On one hand I want to be responsible and debt free at one point on the other I want to live life by doing what I want. I think I've found a balance but it leans heavily towards not buying anything. Hell just this morning we went to lunch with my wife's family. We found meals at $10 a piece while others were getting $25 steak lunches and we know for a fact they are not in any kind of situation to be blowing $30 on a meal a piece.

depends.. who paid for the lunch? or each family pays their own?

currently having buyer's remorse over the hotel room that I booked today. lol

there was another hotel that looked a lot nicer, but they didn't take online reservations and I didn't feel like being assed to call someone on the phone (though at the same time, there were only 2 really nice rooms in the other hotel and they didn't say online whether or not they had any availability... based on the low availability in surrounding hotels, probably not)

There is a reason that I don't have buyer's remorse!

I only wish that I had more sense when I was younger as to big and/or wasteful purchases. I would have been retiring about right now.

sure, but I don't consider $80 to be a "big" purchase. chump change really in comparison. What is wasteful is only up for the individual to decide. Maybe someone else thinks $80 for an awesome meal is wasteful, to others it may be the difference between crappy vs awesome or the simple act of a man showing his woman he cares enough to give her a great dining experience...whatever but buyer's remorse can occur for any other reason than your ability to afford it. For example I can afford to waste money on collecting stuff I just admire on occasion, yet can still have remorse for gathering more clutter, so it isn't always about money.

I've had buyers remorse with a new car I bought several years ago b/c I've had to take it in for warranty service 6-7 times, including the steering wheel locking up on the highway.

Two year contract on a cell phone plan from Alltel. Signed up for the plan and almost immediately went on extended business travel. I was gone for the 30-day refund period. Got home to discover the phone got terrible reception at home. My plan had been to ditch the land line but I got stuck with an expensive brick instead.

I have to admit that I do, especially when I finance it. I obsess over it in fact... it's not healthy.

Thankfully, the only things I have financed at the moment are my car and my house.

Hah

I usually have huge buyers remorse. Regret instantly, in the way that the pursuit >>>> than the kill (proven neurobiology, when neurotransmitters peak etc.), then some time later after putting it aside after having gotten really mad, I rediscover the utility of it (instead of an intangible love of an iconic photo, or NIB gear love).

There are times I wonder why the hell I dropped 3-4K on home theater speakers...that one stings sometimes. Other than that, I usually don't think about big purchases after they're made- and I definitely don't keep checking prices etc to be pissed when it goes on sale etc

lol boomer beat me to it- yeah I make it a point not to look @ prices after I buy it...ignorance is bliss

Not sure I get the speakers piece. Speakers will last a very long time if you don't blast the volume so you'll end up with your moneys worth in the long run either way you slice it.

As for me I never have an issue with big ticket purchases. I actually decided to buy a house after i broke up with my ex inside of a week and was under contract 2 weeks after that. I just never worry about that type of stuff because you can always make more money so what is there to regret?

I always overthink purchases before going through with them, and I still can get buyer's remorse if there's any small detail missing or if I did it in a rush.

after my bank cut me the bank check I was thinking twice about it but after they put me in the car I was ecstatic and still am after 5 years.

as for the house - well it's to be expected you spend nearly everything on it. This ain't the middle of nowhere.

Same here and I go even farther. I can be 100% sure what I am about to buy is the right choice and go through with it in complete confidence but 30 seconds later I start over-analyzing my purchase and worrying that I made a mistake

I go back and forth on this. On one hand I want to be responsible and debt free at one point on the other I want to live life by doing what I want.

I do that too. I want to retire early so I don't want any big finacial purchases but the next day I'll start thinking about building a new house

Usually not.. But I just entered into a lease for a new apartment right before watching Breaking Bad with coworkers in one of the nicest apartments I've ever seen. Now I kind of wonder if I should have paid up for a nicer place.

Most of the time I have the inverse symptom: Buyer's Reluctance.
When I buy computer parts, unless it's an emergency, like a blown PSU or HDD, I start speccing out a configuration about a year or two early. Then keep respeccing it, until the stars align, and I can finally convince myself, that no is the time.
By then I am so focused on those items, that buyer's remorse is impossible. After all, I've been mentally preparing for ownership for years.

At times I feel that some of the cheap items I buy are not up to the task, and that maybe I should've bought something more durable and expensive. But usually I just work around the limitations, and then replace them with something that suits my needs more precisely.

Probably the only thing where I have some buyer's remorse is my wok. But it's not really buyer's remorse, but rather cook's remorse, that I don't find excuses to use it more often. It's a great wok, and every use has been a pure joy, and many meals I like cooking require one. It's just a bit large to cook meals for a single person in. I'm sure it will come in handy some time over the next ten years.

Huge buyers remorse on our house. It was a great deal in 2005 when we had it built, and was supposed to be worth 25% more now, but then the economy crashed, the subdivision builder went belly up, and we're stuck in a dead rural area. A bunch of health issues in the family popped up since then, everything got about 30% more expensive, and our income didn't rise to match it.

In short- we're house poor now. Fortunately the economy is improving and they're building around us again, so that should help the situation. It makes me sick seeing the houses on the market at half of what we paid though

As others have said, I over-research EVERYTHING. It annoys my wife to no end. I don't just look up a few things, I will search and read for days before making a decision. Even after all of that, I still end up regretting making certain purchases afterwards.

Usually for little things. Pretty much every phone accessory I've bought has been buyer's remorse because I always think I'll use them and never do. But they're cheap so it's not a huge deal.

Biggest buyer's remorse for me was a 2008 Honda Fit purchased new. I liked the car at first, but eventually the poor ride quality and road noise, as well as the lack of cruise control really got to me. I sold it about 3 and a half years after I bought it and luckily, it hadn't depreciated a whole lot. Ultimately, it was as though I had leased it for around $120 a month. Used the money from selling it to buy an older but more comfortable and quieter 2003 Accord, and I've been super happy with it.

Oh, and I'm never buying a subcompact again.

Not infrequently. Though nothing anywhere near the scale of a house or even a car.

Makes absolutely no difference how much I think things through - no way of knowing how I'd feel about something till after I've bought it and used it for a bit. And in the meantime, agonising about it and over-researching it is such a tiresome and mental-energy-consuming process that its usually easier just to go ahead and accept the possibility of buyers remorse.

My real problem is that I need to be more ruthless and active about selling things on second-hand. I find it quite hard to part with things even after I realise I'm not going to be using them.

Just bought a "new" Ford Fusion. Not regretting it yet because it was actually an used car driven by the dealership VP and had 4K miles on it. I got a good deal on it IMO
