They might take it away. Do you have to go in and take the wrtten + driving tests, or do you just have to show them your out of state license to get a license in FL? If the latter, I think they'd take it away. If the former, they may ask you if you have a license in another state and take it away. I seem to remember reading when I got my NJ license that you have to surrender your license from another state to get your NJ license.

Of course you could just lie, but there's not much benefit to having both unless you sell it to some kid to use as a fake ID.

As far as I know, all 50 states REQUIRE you to surrender all preexisting driver's licenses before they will issue you a driver's license for that state. They then notify the previous DMV to expire you and destroy the card.

And most states, from what I know, require you to surrender your DMV-issued state ID if you have one before they'll issue you a driver's license.

When I got my CA DL they just punched a whole thru the expiration date of my IN DL which means the license is no longer valid. I still carried the expired IN DL w/me until my CA DL came in the mail so I'd have a picture ID (I also kept the temp paper CA DL on me so if I got pulled over I could say, "Here is my picture ID and here is my little paper saying my CA DL is on the way."

I have my license, my buck id (Ohio State school ID), and someday soon will have a military ID.
