I do. I just dropped $350 on a car audio system and I should not have done that.

Now that Enya should sound really fantastic

Enya sounds awesome on a $7K B&W + NAD stereo system.

Enya sounds awesome in my bed.

Lets see. I've bought a Digital Camera, DS Lite and games, an HDTV, shoes, MX5000 (which is crap BTW), and countless other garbage I don't need.

Curse the interweb!

Yeah, I'm terrible at it. And even worse, I shop when I'm depressed, including when I'm depressed about money. I guess in some warped way, I go blow money to make me feel better about being bummed out over not having it to blow.

Though, lately, I've trained myself to find content in just browsing without purchasing anything. Or, I'll just purchse something really minimal which often satisfies my urge to spend money.

No, I do not impulse buy when I get bored of my stuff...because I only buy what I need. Get my stuff all set and running...and leave it alone until it requires an upgrade. Not to mention I've always paid my own bills and now have a 1month old son...

I've learned to control big-ticket spending, but sometimes I'll buy <$50 items, which adds up.

Yep, I do the same. Even for small things.

Same here....although I got a hdd a few weeks ago since I needed the space.

I'm an impulse buyer^2

I recently convinced myself not to though. I'm just gonna end up saving a shitload of cash though and get the same thing though.

Buying does a number of things all related to pleasure.

Seeking out a deal is a chase.
A new\different item is a pursuit of novelty.
Pride of Ownership.

As a psychological alternative to sate these impulses: Do the shopping, put it in your cart, but before you get the credit card out and hit the purchase button, go have sex, or masturbate, after that decide if you want to buy it.

Report your findings back here.

When I have a really light workload at work, I've noticed my frivilous online purchases increase dramatically.

Weird, I know what you mean. I just bought an LCD to pick up from Circuit City later.

Another thing I do is come to anandtech off-topic. And that's the story of how I came to post in this thread.

The End.

Heh, actually.. it is a sign of depression for me.

When I'm extremely extremely down, impulse buy is all I do. Purchases tend to make me happy, period.
