Do you know any people who went from fat to fit? (or vice versa)

I went from thin to chubby to thin to ripped to fat and now I'm stocky working towards ripped.

I'm curious about other people who have lost weight and got in good shape, I need the inspiration.

Anyone know a good place to buy a cheap digital camera, I want to keep pictures of my progress on the PC.

I dropped about 30lbs in 4 months while training for a big cycling race a few summers back. I'd be happy to post some tidbits and weekly mileage stats from my logbook that year. It was pretty tough to get my butt back in gear after almost a year away from the bike, but the results were worth it.

Please share Fausto, I'd love to hear what you did

Currently I'm doing about 1-2 cardio sessions per day with weight training 2-3 days per week. As of today (Monday) I plan on incorporating 100 pushups daily into my workout. I will increase by 100 every week until I hit the 4th week.

I changed my diet over to about 95% of green vegetables, grilled meat and water. I've for the most part cut out carbs, sugar, starchy foods, fried foods and breads. Strangely enough I only lost 2 pounds last week tho.

2lbs/week is healthy. Anything over that is water/muscle. IIRC.

EDIT:
don't burn yourself out. 2 cardio sessions per day is alot of cardio. You might lose motivation. Unless you've done it before, in which case, more power to you.

My workout regimen won't be of much use to you since it's about 90% cycling, but I'll post bits and pieces once I get home today and can have a look at my logbook.

Diet-wise, I didn't really have any limitations on how much I would eat since cycling burns so many calories it's pretty hard to eat more than you burn on a weekly basis (I was doing anywhere from 150-300 miles each week). Meals were usually based around some kind of lean meat (chicken, fish, pork) with lots of steamed/sauteed veggies, a slice of baguette (I love bread) and a small scoop of frozen yogurt for dessert at dinner. Nothing fried, one or two beers OK on friday, no cheese or butter (olive oil ok), and drank lots of water.

How about an **official***confirmed*** "Getting My Fat PC-gaming Butt Back in Shape" thread where those of us on a fitness mission can post progress and encouragement? There are frequently threads on the subject, so a forum-within-a-forum might be cool and help everyone stay on track.

My trick is jogging 5-6 miles 6 days a week in a 8-9 min/mile step, and one long easy 10-12 miles run on weekends. Hardly any other workout, no change on diet(didn't eat more either).

That is my new slogan. I'm obese at 230lbs and 6'1" (according to the BMI thread from last week). I need to lose 50lbs before I'm normal again. I drank the last of the 12-pack of beer last night, had a Carnation Instant Breakfast this morning and I'm eating a salad for lunch. Might even go try to work out tonight...

In my adult life I have ranged from 195 to 275 pounds.
Current weight is 245 and I am on a downward trend.
Ideal weight is about 205. To maintain a weight of 200 or less requires a ridiculous amount of cardiovascular exercise.

Well, last year I was 230lbs which is quite large for a 6' tall guy. After having my heart broken by a girl, I made a commitment that I wouldn't lose another girl because of my lifestyle or whatnot and am now 170lbs and feeling great. I could still afford to lose more, but I am happy where I am for now.

My weightloss came more or less from cutting red meat out of my diet. I know most people aren't willing to do that, but it worked really really well for me. On occassion I'll eat a burger or a steak, but more often then not I'll eat a more lean chicken dinner or what have you... also, I was jogging quite often and lifting as well. All in all, now that I've changed my lifestyle, it's not too hard at all to keep in decent shape, just a bit of not overstuffing myself on junk food and doing a little bit of physical work once or twice a week.

I went from out-of-shape to athletic by seriously taking up surfing (again) in my early 30s. If it was flat, I paddled and was in the water (at least) 4 days a week. Then I got serious, moved to Hawaii at age 39 and joined the regular Pipeline crew (waves up to 25 feet top-to-bottom).

A serious auto accident put me back in the 'out-of-shape' category (no surf for 8 months) but I struggled back (to smaller and lesser waves). Then ANOTHER similar auto accident 1-1/2 years ago put me out of the water for another 9 months.

I'm back in San Diego and surfing 3-4 days a week and working toward "fit" again even though I am approaching my 50th birthday. I think DIET (eating properly) is crucial to any fitness schedule (just as working out is crucial to any dieting schedule).

It's worth it.

pretty much the same thing here
From 14-18 years old I've gone from lanky to ripped but always on the skinny side so I was always trying to put on weight and hit the previously unattainable 75kg. Now I'm 78 and akthough I'm nowhere near obese or even fat I know that I don't look good without a shirt and am trying desperately to shed that extra fat... thing is I'm very busy and don't have a lot of time to work out... to top it off I busted my ankle ligament and can't jog everyday like I'd started doing

So how many calories does cycling 25-30 miles (on a hybrid with cyclo-cross tires at 80PSI) burn in a day? Just wondering.

damn, well I said I was going to have a salad for lunch. Ended up being pre-cooked chicken nuggets that I warmed up in the microwave plus a small bag of Cheetos. I did have an apple though, that's good right? Oh well, I can make up for the lunch by eating a salad for dinner. Plus I AM going to work out tonight darnit!!!

I need to lose about 25-30 pounds. I used to be in pretty good shape (I worked on a loading dock for a large book distributer, lifting 40-60 lb boxes all day). Now I've assumed the life of a student/office work. I am way too umm... well.. what's that word.. argh! Well, I sit around way too much . Over the last year I've gained about 15 lbs, but I've probably lost 5-10 lbs of muscle.

I'm eating better, but I'm not motivated to exercise. I'll think, "Hey I'm gonna go jog for 20 min. tonight." Then when the time comes around to go jog, I just don't want to do it.

Any tips for getting motivated?
