Not to get into a flame fest, but how is it any difference than getting ones hair done, shaving, wearing "nice" clothes? It's all the same thing, only on a little different level.
Of course, everyone knows my feelings, i don't need to elaborate.
It all depends on your perspective, Lola.
The 'pretty' sister in my family has breast implants. She is a beautiful woman, always has been, and I always admired how well put together she was/is. But I am sad for her sometimes, because it seems she views life as a beauty pageant, and she isn't getting any younger (none of us are!).
Me, I was the ugly duckling... I was tormented for being cross-eyed and overweight. And after the miracle of surgery gave me a normal looking appearance and I lost weight (because I could finally walk without tripping) I was upset that suddenly people who were mean to me wanted to be friends with me. Guys that made fun of me in elementary school wanted to date me in high school.
So for me, beauty is very much who you are and not how perfect you are, or how well you fit an artifical societal ideal. To me, beauty is more about originality and quality. Good grooming and good health is important... but following fashion and trying to fit in or be pleasing according to popular culture isn't.
Hey, It's not like I actually look like my avatar. I just like her because that's my way of saying FU to people who want to rate me according to my looks.
