Working on cars or trucks becomes somewhat of a nice distraction when it is a hobby or DIY type stuff. I find it cathartic.
Sure it is frustrating especially in the rust belt. But it gives an excuse to buy a tool to move the job along faster. The tools I have bought over the years paid for themselves many times over. I'm sure there are flat rate guys chuckling that do this for a living. Yet hey, when I can crank out a brake job in 20 minutes with fresh rotors and pads for around $100 bucks in my driveway (thanks Rockauto) there is definite value. Problem is when crap goes wrong. And that's where a few years of experience comes in to bail yourself out. Cars are simple yet takes a few years to learn their nuances.
As for the expensive oil changes...yeah. When dumping in around 10L of Mobil 1 synthetic with a factory filter it isn't cheap from a dealer. But will be good for 10K miles.
You think the NVidia/Intel/AMD wars are consuming...it is trivial when stepping into the tool world argument wise.
