Do you know how many light bulbs are in your house?

I counted today, and I have 88 (inside and out)! I think if you take the time to count, it will surprise you how many their are. As for the different types, 8 are incandescent (I hate whoever thought that intermediate base was a good idea), 36 halogen, and 44 fluorescent (coverted about $100 dollars worth this weekend).

16 more bulbs are going to be converted to CFL in the next week or so. Had to order 8 intermediate to candelabra adapters, 8 candelabra bulbs, and 8 R30 halogen replacements. House will be incandescent free.

Also put up some new fixtures. We needed more light in the living room, so I got a $10 recessed can conversion kit and put up a track light. Also converted some of the recessed lights in the kitchen over the island to pendant.

Why are you switching to CFL when within the next year or so LED is going to stomp them?

A friend of mine found a conversion kit for his can lights from halogen to LED and I was stunned at the amount of light they gave off from 12' ceilings.

Hmmmm..
bedroom: 3 including closet
bedroom: 5
bedroom: 3
office: 3
bathroom: 4
dining room: 1
living room 2
kitchen 7
sunroom/laundry room 4
garage 8 currently
spotlights: 2 in driveway, 2 toward back yard, 2 toward barn, 2 toward front of house
porch: 3
barn: 16, spotlights on barn: 2
storage closets: 2
One of those extension cord lights to the attic of the garage: 1
basement: 10
Spare bulbs: about 20

Holy shit; that's 92, not counting the replacement bulbs. Oh wait, there are the 8 foot fluorescent bulbs in the left loft of the barn... that makes it an even 100.
Oh wait - I was rethinking the basement and changed the 12 to 10. I remembered that I took a fluorescent fixture out of the basement, but forgot to count it in the attic of the house (2 48" bulbs) So, 102, plus 20 spare bulbs.

I've replaced a few with CFL already, and I've got some of the domed CFL lights to put in the kitchen, but I either need to be naughty and stand on the counter or get a ladder. A small ladder might be nice given I can't reach the ones in my bedroom either! I also want to reduce the amount of bulbs in the bathroom. It's this ridiculous 5 light array above the sink, and I think I'm going to take it to two 60W replacement CFL bulbs.

This is a really rough count, don't feel like counting these at night.

Flourescent: 30 (1 CFL, 29 flourescent tubes)
Incandescent: 30

Not counting the ten feet of LED strip lighting, or the spare bulbs, I believe the total is 128.

What do I win? :awe:

I have 13 (including appliances) in a 1,200 square foot apartment. I picked this place because the natural lighting is great and facilitated by a very open layout.

Yeah, do strings of xmas lights count, too?
The intent would seem to be from the OP; those that are permanent.

If Xmas lights are on year round, then count them:whiste:

I have about 80. I have CFLs wherever they are appropriate, and a few months ago I switched a bunch of incandescents to LED where CFL is not so great (e.g. ceiling fans, dimmers, and anywhere I want to have instant-on full light rather than crappy CFL warmup time).

3 months in the results are mixed.

1. I haven't found anything over 3.5 watts (25 watt equivalent) for my ceiling fans, and I really need a 40 watt equivalent. The light output is acceptable, but not ideal for reading. Considering it's 14 watts total vs 160 watts total, I'll take it. These bulbs were $15 apiece.

2. My dimmable flood lights in my kitchen flicker occasionally. I think I figured out that keeping the dimmer slider slightly below the max fixes this problem, and the light output difference is not noticeable. I'm using 5x14 = 70 watts to light the kitchen instead of 5x90 = 450 watts that the electrician put in or 5x65 = 325 that we had been using because I couldn't find the 90 watts anymore. These bulbs were $30 apiece.

3. Bulbs that are intended to replace a standard 60 watt lightbulb have been fantastic so far aside from the fact that they only throw light in a 180 degree arc. In every fixture I've put them in, this hasn't been a problem. I've mostly been using 40 watt equivalents and have been satisfied with the light output. These bulbs were $10 apiece ($15-20 for 60-watt equivalents).

It's a substantial expense to buy the bulbs, but they have some huge advantages over CFLs:
1. No warmup time
2. Better light color
3. *Actual* long life that isn't diminished by frequent on/off cycles.
4. Slightly more energy efficient than CFLs, hugely more energy efficient than incandescents.
