I have lend stuff out (DVD's and some games) and had a hard time getting them back. I mean seriously people think that once the stuff is given to them, it belongs to them. Have stopped giving out stuff totally.

Anyone else think the same way?

I used to, and I agree sometimes its impossible to get your stuff back. Also sometimes you lend stuff out and the person never takes care of it (scratched up games, DVDs, etc...).

I lend stuff out to about a dozen or so people.
I pretty much get everything back in good shape from them, so they are free to borrow DVDs or whatever whenever.

So when are you going to give back those Star Wars movies I loaned you, waggy???

And NO, I usually do not lend stuff out.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be. Too bad the banks can't figure that one out.

Not anymore.
WAY too many people have screwed me over during my life.

I've lost a considerable sum of cash, plenty of movies & games, clothes (jackets, not underpants), valuable goodies like flashlights and gadgets. I once loaned by beat up chevy to a friend and told him: "I dont care what you do to it, but I filled it with gas and you NEED to return it that way".
Sure enough, he brought it back dry as a bone. In fact it was so low I think the asshole deliberately parked it and let it idle to a stall.
EVEN BETTER: He didnt put it back in my parking space WHICH IS WHERE HE PULLED OUT OF!!!!
He parked it a block down in a corporate park where it very likely would have been towed. AND THE GOD DAMN SON OF A WHORE DIDNT EVEN CALL ME OR KNOCK ON MY FUCKING DOOR!
ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!

Wait, what was the question?

Yes indeedy. Only stuff where it'd be no big deal if I didn't get it back. Have a small specialized tool and a casserole dish loaned out right now. Luckily, my friends and family are good about returning things.

I always lend stuff out. I'm pretty bad for remembering what I've lent to whom, so it's sometimes a pleasant surprise when they return a book/CD/DVD that I had completely forgotten about.

Wait, what was the question?

Wow, that guy was an asshole. Knowing how some people are, I wouldn't be surprised that he did do it on purpose just because you told him to return it with as much gas as it originally had in it.

I do loan stuff to people (in fact I've done it on here) on occasion, but not much.

Something I've noticed is that people seem to misunderstand simple words. They ask if they can borrow something and I respond yeah you can have it (as in take it with them to borrow), and they think I meant they could keep it.

i used to lend of dvd's until i started getting back discs that looked like someone slid them across a driveway (and every time people always say "oh i just put it in the dvd player", bs they used it as a frisbee i think ), there are some people who treat stuff fine so they get copies of discs so that way i don't care about it if it does get scratched. I just ask people float me some blanks occasionally to keep the lending going.

I lend things out to people I trust and say no to those that I don't trust enough. It has never been a problem for me.

Only to family. Otherwise I only lend expecting it not to come back. I loaned my Ron Paul Manifesto book to some girl who swore that she would give it back and even added how she knows people never return books but she ALWAYS returns books. I still didn't expect to get it back, so far I am right.

I'm with you on this. Stuff that I've lent out always seems to go missing so now I don't really lend anything anymore.

I used to but I have such a terrible memory that I don't remember where my stuff went. I apparently lent out a couple of movies to god knows who, and a couple months later when I wanted to watch one I couldn't remember who had them. Now if someone wants to borrow a movie I'll just burn them a copy, no more lending.

No, not even my parents. That's how I keep my books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, etc. looking brand new like the day I bought them after 10 years. Touch my stuff and you die!
