Do you like hearing your hard drive?

I can hear my hard drive now sense my new case fans are so quiet that came with the Lian-Li. Some people complain about the fans being to loud though. I don't get it? How quiet do you want it ? My question is do you like to hear your hard drive so you know its working or do you like it silent ? Are any hard drives really silent?

I have small 80mm case fans in my pc but they don't really seem that loud compared to my other 80mm case fans I used for so long. They only make a small hum but its a lot less annoying than my other three 80mm case fans. Though I hear 120mm case fans are a lot better in less noise but really by how much ? I couldn't find a good case I liked either with 120mm fans. All the ones I looked at had ok airflow and setup. I hated how some were upside down type cases where the power supply went at the bottom of the case. I just can't get use to it. Maybe its just that I am not use to it and maybe it really is better ? I just wish they made a case with 120mm fans but like some of the cases that have 80mm fans. That would be perfect!

Wouldn't there be other more obvious ways of knowing if your HD was working other then if it was making noise or not? You know, ways that would actually make more sense.

Are all 800+ of your posts as stupid as this one? From the handful that I've had the "pleasure" of reading, I can only assume they are.

stfu.

My case doesn't have an HD activity light so I have no way of telling when it's working. I'm guessing that's one of the "ways that would actually make more sense."

On the OP, I can't hear my HD working because of my case fans, so I really can't relate

The only hdd i can hear over the fans is the raptor. Usually tell if the virus scan is running by its sound.
My hdd light fried so thats about the only way i know when there is hard drive activity.

I could always fix it but meh, maybe have a loud fan turn on whenever there is hard drive activity

I love hearing the crunching of a RAID6 as Oblivion levels take only seconds to load.

I have the same problem. Then again that is the sound of coolness and I like coolness!

Can't say - I never hear my hard drives - only have 4 of 'em working. Too much ambient noise - music, fans, wife talking - etc.

My computer is quiet enough that I can hear the hard drive seeks over the other noise, but only if I'm right up next to the case. Western Digital drives are pretty quiet.

Aren't you a nice chap?

I don't really like to hear my hard drive, but it only makes audible sounds when loading a map during a game, or when doing major unzipping or something like that. Mine are fairly quiet in general use so they don't bother me.

OP: perhaps you would be better suited to reading around some of the cases & cooling forum to answer your questions?

its funny, i like to hear the crunching too. mainly because its easier to tell when your system is thinking hard so you dont overwork it. i find myself sometimes doing a bunch of stuff at once only to slow to a crawl because i forgot orb was running. but my system is silent right now, i have to look at that little led on my case. i probably should mount that light to my desk, i guess that would solve problems...

I kinda do. My old systems were mad loud, but when my new system initially had a Seagate, I couldn't hear a thing; while under heavy usage or when the effing system froze and the HDD LED was stuck on. New WD has just the right amount of noise bby being overpowered by fans/optical drive under heaby usage, but audible when I need to hear it (long load times/lock ups).

I love it.Its sounds cool. The lack f an activity light also forces me to try it sometimes. (I prefer it without the light though)

But there is really nothing like the sound of 6 cooling fans droning in your case.
