I rarely listen to regular radio. A lot of the stuff on both AM and FM is total garbage.

This is very true. I enjoy classic rock and blues but, at work, I find myself listening to a country station because the radio 'personalities' are less obnoxious.

I listen to some music and some talk radio. I'm in the car nearly 6 hours a day, so I use lots of radio for background noise. I don't always listen intently, but the car is unusually quiet without it.

Most of this is on Sirius.

If I had to be some place where I couldn't listen to NPR, or my own music, I'd pay for my own network connection so I could listen to what I wanted. Country gets worse the more I hear it. Wannabe rockers singing NASCAR lyrics. A lot of the tunes start off good, but go to hell once they open their mouthes.

I dont listen to the radio much, of any sort.
Once in a while I get tired of the stuff on my memory card and switch over.
I hear nothing I like, and turn it off after a little while.

I listen mostly to Sirius/XM

Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony, Ron & Fex, Dino Costa, Mad Dog Unleashed, NFL radio

As far as music stations: Boneyard, Hair Nation, Liquid Metal, Classic Rewind, Lithium, Depp Tracks, Octane

Only AM/FM stations I have ever really listened to is The Ticket in Dallas, 103.1 FM in Austin and 93.7 in Houston. I used to listen to the Walton and Johnson show all the time in Houston when they were on AM.

There's only one really great talk show host on the radio, Thom Hartmann.

After that, Norm Goldman is ok.

This is why I like world music; I can't understand the words. The words are probably something really stupid like "Baby, baby, baby, I want you, baby", "She dumped me for another and now I'm bumming" or "Allah gave her great knockers, praise Allah".

One Persian group I listen to, Niyaz, has a super trippy trance song. If I had to guess the meaning I would have said it was likely a Sufi praise song. It turns out that the song is a Iranian children's song about a hunter going into the woods and bringing back one animal then another, the Iranian equivalent of the Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly, modified into a love song.

You'd actually be surprised at the poetry in world music. Street culture hasn't hit that yet, so they'll often sing about very deep subjects.

However, give it 10 years and I'm sure the "repeat the same line 10 times in a row and call it a song" thing will hit them too.

Yes, started back in 1991. Ive rarely listen to FM since then. AM is thinking radio. FM is derp radio.

I listened at work so I spent about 8 hours a day on AM. The events I was witness to:

+ I heard Rush's 3rd anniversary

+ The 1992 election and the mocking of Ross Perot

+ Some local guys attempt to confront the FBI live during the Waco Texas standoff with David Koresh and his reaction when the place caught fire and they were all burned alive.

+ Another guys revenge against the FBI by bombing Oklahoma City, live local accounts by witnesses of the boming and the subsequent manhunt.

+ The impeachment of Bill Clinton and the Lewinski drama.

+ The Year 2000 election fiasco.

+ Semptember 11th on Howard Stern and AM talk

After 10 years of 8 hours a day of AM radio, I took a break and only listened in the car. I still caught a lot of the AM broadcasts in the mid 2000s, but I started to be repulsed by extremism from Republicans and Democrats. The idea that "they are always wrong and we are always right" is stupid.

After 'retiring' in 2008 I found Catholic Radio on 910 AM Guadalupe Radio and listen to that a lot, along with news and local talk stations on the road.

I don't listen to music stations since most music sucks nowadays. I listen to AM talk 99.9% of the time. I'm not a political person at all and don't associate myself with any political party, I just like to be informed and entertained and that's what talk radio does. I definitely don't listen to Rush as that guy is insanely annoying.

Also having HD radio in your car makes those certain AM stations sound like a good FM station.

sporadically.

there's one local Jersey station that's talk radio during the weekdays. I think it's broadcast from the shore, because I don't always get good reception on it, but I'll listen to it on occasion just for local news and hearing people talk about controversial local issues.

listen to 670 the score from 1-6. its not your typical talk show

Same here, Boers and Bernstein are a couple of hilarious dudes. I like 1000 ESPN from 9-1 for Waddle and Silvy too.

FM radio and the "music" they play typically makes me want to jam screwdrivers through my eardrums, maybe.

When I was a kid, my dad listened to Paul Harvey. Always liked his stories. That was it for a long time. I recently began listening to ESPN Mike & Mike In The Morning, either on the radio or online. But I don't generally like talk radio, political stuff in particular.

If I'm bored at night I might turn on the AM radio to see what kind of stations I can pick up. I can pickup Toronto and sometimes even the states. Sometimes I find some weird alien related stations and stuff lol.

Radio is a transient job for most media personalities. Pays very little and it's very difficult to really make a name for yourself. Most move on to television or webcasting. The likes of Stern, Limbaugh, and Opie & Anthony are rare.

I don't think Stern will be doing radio for much longer. O&A have talked about doing a podcast. They haven't been happy with the way Sirius runs things for some time now. I can see Rush eventually going the podcasting route too. Glenn Beck has made a good run at doing a subscription service.

I listen to some music and some talk radio. I'm in the car nearly 6 hours a day, so I use lots of radio for background noise. I don't always listen intently, but the car is unusually quiet without it.

To be a talk show host, you only need to take any news story and take the opposite side of the majority view. Then when people call in, you just become rude and insensitve to them and hang up on them if they become too correct. Yep, love AM talk radio.

You're listening to the wrong show. My favorite host tries not to raise his voice. Has a phone number for those who disagree with him and those callers get moved to the front of the queue.
