I never have liked it. I guess meals are traditionally social events in our lives, and we feel strange sitting amongst a lot of people we don't know and wont socialize with when we eat alone in a restaurant.

The eating part isn't bad it's the wait for the food that can get real dull, or the check at the end of the meal. Seems like the waitstaff isn't quite in a hurry to tally you up if they've got a bunch of big tables to look after. Odds are your tip isn't going to make/break their night. OTOH, if they hurry up to get you outta there they might get a bigger table next round.

If I have to eat alone I prefer fast food places. Otherwise a sitdown place with fast service and a TV Screen to keep my attention.

Going to the movies alone is nice sometimes (not always).

Me too, I don't mind eating alone, but waiting for the food without someone to talk to or something to read is too painfully awkward for me.

I don't like it. Usually when I go to town by myself I just pack a cooler with my lunch and/or dinner and just eat in the car at a park under a tree. I haven't ate out by myself in almost 11 years.

I dont mind it at all for some reason.

Maybe it's because I always have to wait 15 minutes for my wife to decide what she wants!

I eat alone all the time, the cost of being an EE major and having 2 jobs. You eat when you can, not out of everyones convience.

I did it once and will never do that again. Like Felix said, it felt like everyone was staring at you.

: Do you mind eating dinner in restaurants alone?
Not at all!
Do you guys have Restaurants around where you live or travel like Chilis, TGIF, Applebees, etc. ?

When I travelled extensively for my company, I was almost always alone at dinnertime.
Go sit at the bar, order one beer and then have dinner there.

I very seldom went without intelligent conversation, and I didn't feel like a dork because I was eating alone in a strange place.

Depends on the restaurant - like fast food and stuff I do all the time. Stuff like Bennagins and that type, very rarely. (But then again I very rarely eat there anyway)

Most people dine at restaurants for the social experience. If you enter their domain alone you are the oddball. I'm not talking fast food joints but "real" restaurants, whatever those are.

So you should be dreadfully embarassed my good chap. They'll either think you're a loner or that you've been stood up by your significant (though absent) other. They will stare and make fun of you behind your back and thoroughly enjoy it. It's all about them, not so much about you.

Better find some good rice recipes soon, eh?

If I'm studying or I have a good book with me, I'm not embarrassed to eat alone. However, I don't like studying/reading while I eat. So if the need to dine alone should arise, I usually just get something and eat it at my apartment. Don't want anyone to think I'm a loser.

I do it quite often, as my job hours pretty much isolate me from a lot of my co-workers and friends. Most of the time i'll bring a newspaper, but a few times i've been surprised by a couple who would invite me to have dinner with them.

I really don't care what other people think of me if I eat alone, they can make whatever judgements they like.

I mind. I wouldn't go into a nice restraunt and eat alone. To me, that is a waist of money. I usually only eat out for the purpose of eating with other people. Fast food is a different story. I eat that stuff in my car alone all the time. I don't see the need to go into a fast food restraunt at all, unless you don't have a car, or they do not have a drivethrough.

I don't mind eating Breakfast or Lunch on my own, but I would feel uncomfortable eating dinner alone unless I am at the bar.

tru dat...i used to travel all the time too very nice resort areas around Hawaii and the only place to eat were very nice places. You wanna laugh at me cuz I'm married, away from my wife, and prefer to use my healthy expense account to drink wine and eat paella over a #3 combo from McDonalds? fvck'em. Go get something to remember and broaden your gastronomics.
