Found this nice tip on Xp-experience.org.
Get this program called Grokster. It's basically a Morpheus clone and it uses the Fastrak network. Yes, it does have spyware but you can remove that spyware and install a dummy version of that spyware to trick the software. I've tried it.. it works!

"As you probably know the old Morpheus doesn't work any more, and the new Preview Edition uses the Gnutella network instead.

The two other fasttrack clients Kazza and Grokster both use spyware. But I have found a solution:

Download the latest Grokster from http://www.grokster.com

Use Ad-Aware to remove the CyDorr spyware.

Now download this dummy CyDoor file here: http://www.cexx.org/cd_clint.zip

UnZip cd_clint.dll to the Grokster folder (Program FilesGroster)

Now you can keep on using the fasttrack network, minus the spyware

This also works for the new iMesh. "

Just a quick question. What does the spyware in it do exactly? I'm using it right now, only thing I can think of is the advertising banner. Other than that, what else?

Also, when I used the cd_clint zip to remove the spyware in kazaa, ad aware still showed it as spyware. That normal?

I believe it sends the info as you're using the program. It runs in the background but I'm not a spyware expert or anything..

ad aware shows it as spyware cuz it recognizes the file names as spyware. It's just a dummy DLL file.

General characteristics of spyware includes sending URLs of sites you surf, what you download, personally identifiable information, and contents of your hard drive. They're also frequently known to cause system instability. Some of them are much more serious offenders such as the VX2 where it logs keystrokes such as passwords and credit card information. In any case, spyware is never good to have running. Anyone who willingly runs spyware is just asking for it (it being something much more detrimental than extra spam in the mail).

Yes, this is normal, Ad-aware does not check contents of files, rather it checks only the filenames of known spyware files. To exclude the file from future scans with Ad-aware:

1. Select the checkbox next to CD_CLINT.DLL, and click Exclude.
2. Answer OK and then click Continue, OK and OK again.
3. If you ever want to remove the dummy replacement DLL from Ad-Aware's include list, click Configuration, IgnoreList, select the file in the list, and click Remove Checked Items, Yes and Proceed.
Don't have Ad-Aware delete the replacement DLL or Grokster won't launch.

Thanks for the info. Grokster is nice, granted it's the same thing as kazaa, it just doesn't have the annoying color scheme.

I just started using Kazaa after using Morpheus for a long time. It's basically the same thing, but there's like only 1/3 of the users compared to when Morpheus was still functional on the network.

I used to switch between Morpheus/Kazaa frequently, but now as you know why, I switched to Kazaa minus the spyware...
