<< Mookow

I think I'm going to go out with my M-70, shoot some crow and eat it.

That is one impressive little machine! I did not know they were made legally, my bad.
>>

No problem, like I obliquely mentioned, they are rather exotic. I want one though, even if they are 9mm. Oh, and shooting crow with a 30-06 is like my uncle shooting rabbit and squirell with a full choke 12 gauge

Four actually:
Mauser Kar98K 7.92mm bolt action, 1942 manufacture
Ruger P89 9mm semi-automatic pistol
Ruger 22/45 .22LR semiautomatic pistol
Ruger 10/22 .22LR semiautomatic rifle

The Ruger thing really just happened by accident -- good prices on good guns when I was interested in buying. The Mauser is my favorite though!

And because you (presumably) have a penis, you're a potential rapist.

glenn, why talk about potential, when the reality is that he's an @sshole?

<< Lets take your getting rid of guns idea and reverse it. Instead of banning firearms how about we make all firearms legal? Yes, I think we should be selling UZIs and 50 cal machine guns all over the place. Why don't we do that if "guns are not evil"? It's because its gets bloody ridiculous. Do you think full autos should be just as easy to get as handguns and if not why not? >>

seems to work rather well for Sweden & Switzerland, as AmusedOne pointed out

I've shot a few in my day. Don't own one now. Don't need to. Got nothing against them since they're just a tool, but every time I used one for real, something died inside.

Cool, it's 50/50 right now. That at least gives me hope that the gun grabbers can't win easily. All gun owners are pro-gun, and some non-gun owners are too. So as long as we have at least 50% gun ownership we win.

But why are there two yes answers? Are you trying to imply that gun owners who have a gun but it's not just for hunting are somehow criminal?

I don't own a gun because I'm not old enough to buy one, and nobody's given me one yet.

<< How old are you? >>

19, and i live in a city of 80000.

oh, and i've also never heard a gunshot, i'm kind of curious how they sound IRL.

some more information before you ask, i live very close to the center of town, and am pretty outgoing.

more recently, after the iron curtain fell, eastern european mobsters are entering the EU, they can be divided in 2 groups, burglars and armed robbers. Burglars never go armed, and they usually break in when you sleep (you'll never notice, they visited a friend of mine, and no-one of 5 people present heard anything), or when you're gone, so a gun won't do you any good. Armed robbers usually target banks, but they are very rare, there's only one city in the entire country that's problematic, in the other cities, they are a non-factor.

We also have a really low imprisoned rate, murder rates are extremely low, i believe the most problematic city (500k pop) published it's numbers for 2001, and there were 30 murders, half of them family stuff where one parent goes loony, the other half were paybacks in the mobster environment.

Well.. I own a recurve bow, does that count?

Seriously, I shot with a couple of Guns while i visited a friend.
I live in a town of 85.000 and i know of 2 gun related incidents, one of them was a gas powered gun (it has the same regulations as a normal gun) the other was becouse of a kid who played with his grandfathers WW2 pistol and shot himself in the leg.

It is save to say that I don't require a gun for my own safety and I am against guns here in the Netherlands.

If i would go and live in the USA however, my opinion could change (depending on the situation).

I'm afraid that the gun-issue in the USA will still be there in 20 years.
The guns are widespread and numerous that it will be virtually impossible to ban them, add to that the way some americans are brought up (no offence ment) and you have a VERY dificult situation.

Yep, just put together a flat-top AR 15 variant. Olympic Arms pre-ban lower, Bushmaster M4 upper, collapsable stock, 16" bbl, Bushnell Holosight, it's one of those evil black guns It was almost as much fun to build it as a new computer...

Yes. Charles Daly .45 Handgun. If you lived in my neighborhood you would too. I think 90% of all nights I hear atleast on gun shot. Usually just rowdy teens shooting in the air hooting, but you never know when they will be in a bad mood.

bot2600, I just bought a Charles Daly for my father-in-law, he was thrilled.

How is yours holding up? I've heard varying reports about it's reliability.

<< The city I live in doesnt allow guns....isnt this unconstitional? :frown: >>

No it is not unconstitutional.
The second amendment says "A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State,
the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

This means that the State has the right to form a militia, IE national gaurd. Check your states constitution here

<< Your logic falls flat when one realizes that the Swiss and Israelis have a higher percentage of gun owners per capita than the US, yet a lower gun related crime rate than Canada's. >>

This is the exact reason i was comparing the US and Canada - because their cultures are very similar. Once you start putting different nations into the mix with highly different cultures comparing them is totally and utterly useless. For instance in Switzerland yes a lot of people have guns. Of course since most of these people were forced to join the military and receive training and have had background checks and whatnot you can't compare them to some joe who went to a store and waited 72 hours for his handgun in the US.
>>

I disagree. I lived in Vermont for a number of years. Closer to the Canada I know than most of the US. They had NO handgun banning laws to speak of. In fact you could carry conceiled weapons without a permit just about anywhere you like. Now the per capita gun crime is at least as low as Canada. I now live in MA, and it's more dangerous here than there. If they don't have a gun a baseball bat would just as well, thank you. The difference? It's not polite to kill in VT and perhaps Canada. It's cool here at least. Or so it seems. It's not the law, its the culture.

I was thinking about getting one, but one of my friends said that she won't let me get one, so I decided not to.

Wrong. Check your federal law, and the intent of the men who wrote the Bill of Rights. The "militia" is every able bodied man, and the intent of the 2nd Amendment was to create an armed populace from which a sufficiant number of men could be recruited to serve in a militia, (but that was not the only reason). The national guard is NOT a militia as defined by the authors of the 2nd, and is not under state control independant from federal control. The national guard is a standing army under federal control and is 180 degrees from the intent of the 2nd Amendment.

Yes, I own many firearms:

Colt AR15 HB Match
M1A 7.62 NATO
Glock 17 9mm
Browning High Power
Baby Browning .25 caliber
Walther PPK/S
Ruger 10/22
M1903A3 Springfield

to name a few.

At the moment, I don't feel like arguing with the misguided, anti-gun zealots, so leave me out of it for now.

29, Canadian (near Toronto), never seen a gun that wasn't in the holster of a police officer, and like it that way.

Most statistics from both the pro and anti-gun lobbies don't tend to sway me, especially comparisons of crime rates from different cities or even countries. Those stats are junk - there's no accounting for other factors.

Now, there are those who would suggest that revoking the right to bear arms will inevitably lead to a government that abuses its power. Then there are others who would suggest that this has already happened.

But really, what a pathetic argument. If you want to defend freedom, make informed votes on election day. The solution your right to bear arms would allow is too little, too late.

When I consider the scenarios where a gun would be desirable, they fall into two categories: plausible and implausible. Of the plausible kind, only my possesions are at stake. Last I knew, nobody wanted to kill me. And if it's a decision between losing a posession or introducing a gun (or a second gun) into the situation, I'll let the guy take the wallet, thank you.

Regards,
Craig
