A more modern v8 and a lighter frame/body (from composite materials) would be decent on gas mileage. Detroit should get back to what it used to do best, the large 4d family sedan. I look at the newer composite/aluminum engine tech, fuel injection, cylinder deactivation(on demand), and even the newer hybrid-electric transmission tech they have now and they could produce a kickass caprice. There hasn't been any real replacement for it since it was killed in the 90's. Even the top of the line Impala, which the caprice used to be based off of to compete with the Crown Vic LTD, isn't a replacement. RWD FTW! They can do it, but they aren't.

never had > a 4-banger. Actually, I think I had a V6 for a short time, a 57 Chevy.

I like my bmw 540i, a bit of a pain to work on as the engine takes up more space than the inline 6 but 280hp is very nice, and it sounds great

Give me a big block V8 any day!
V8 gives you a big thing that little motors can't thats torque!

I love older muscle cars and the feel of touching the gas and getting smashed into the seat from torque.

If you worry about gas prices your cheap in my opinion. So what if it goes up 20 cents, your not going to stop buying it are you? if it went up a $1 a gallon I bet 95% of people would continue to buy gas at whatever price and bitch about it.

I've seen plenty of 4's that make torque, forced induction or not. It's just how they make the engine. Remember there are v8's that make a lot less torque than hp. Like said, it's how it's designed. And being cheap worrying about gas prices??? Umm ok sorry all of us don't have endless amounts of money. Of course we would continue to buy gas. You must buy gas to keep your car running. I just conserve and don't drive everywhere anymore or go to auto-x/drag days.

I love V8s but my Olds 307 will likely be the last one I own. When it dies, I see a sub-compact in my future.

Seeing as my Monte Carlo SS has been in the shop, I have been driving my parents Mustang GT, and I prefer the V6.

I'm pretty sure the V8 in the Monte is a piece of crap, as far as V8s go.

yes! hehehe

Depending on the age of the Monte...it may have the L67 Supercharged 3800 Buick V6. I think only the newer ones you can get with the 5.3 V8.

My little 302 (5.0L if you want to talk in metric measurements) in my Mustang gets me around just find and I can manage 25mpg if I can follow the speed limit, which is rare. They're cheap, reliable, easy to upgrade, and you can get some hella power from them. Can't ask for much more.

I drove a '98 Infinity QX4, which is a small V6 for almost 5 years & that piece was like a dog with 3 legs on life support...

My Tahoe has a very nice V8 & drives circles upon circles around that dog, so yes, I love having a V8 in my SUV...Wouldn't want anything less powerful than this...Ever...

I hope nobody on these forums drives a QX4 with that small ass engine...If so, I hope you're enjoying it...Don't take my comments personally...

Exactly.
If you want to really get down to it. The current vette is one of the most fuel efficientcars out. 15/25 6.2L.
Lets see, 2 liters in econo cars make 30/35 MPG. Which engine is more efficiently using fuel?
True your econo car is using less fuel, but it is actually not as efficiently doing it.

You must have a ZJ with a 5.2 or 6.whatever. My 4.7L V8 WJ gets better gas mileage than every I6 Grand Cherokee AND Cherokee that I've heard of.

I drove a 2004 Tahoe for awhile. It was the most grossly overpowered beast I've ever had the pleasure of driving at excessive speed. Sucked dogs' balls offroad but a fantastic turnpike cruiser (unless there is any sort of crosswind, then watch out!). GM knows how to build a comfy car.

I don't think that a V8 in my MINI Cooper would be drivable. Hell... the car gets a little squirrelly under hard acceleration with just a 4 cylinder!

It depends on the car I suppose...

My truck only has a V6 but that's all it needs. I never tow anything or carry anything weighing more than a few hundred pounds. It's a small truck (Ranger) so the V6 does a great job. However, my summer car, which is purely for pleasure, sports a 405 HP V8 and I absolutely LOVE all the raw excess in the power department! I had a chance a few years back to drive a Vanquish, which has (if I remember correctly) a 460 HP V-12. I think I would sell my soul for that....

So I guess in short... I prefer more cylinders to less cylinders... but only in something inherently fun and pleasurable to drive. Don't need a billion cylinders in my boring daily driver.
