Do you prefer blog or vlog? Why?

I've been thinking about setting up a blog recently, maybe starting with a free WP site, so I'll ovbiously come down on the side of blogs in this debate. I'll always like writing more than public speaking, but that's personal. However, I've noticed a lot of successful Vloggers have hosted blogs alongside their video channels as a way to increase revenue. One of the examples that comes to mind is 'Food Wishes,' which is both a vlog and blog. I find the host really entertaining to watch although I'm not much of a cook myself. But I have tried this grilled cheese recipe which is amazing.

vlogs are horribly organized, it is extremely difficult to find anything in them, and they consume a massive amount of space.

I guess I'm the contrarian. I prefer blogs. Who wants to sit through all that video? And if I don't like a blog post I can see that quickly - more quickly than watching a video linearly - and skip it.

I prefer a blog. If you can't write your thoughts concisely then why should I be interested in them? I'm not really interested in listening to someone blabber on for 30 minutes without any real thought put into it. If I wanted to do that I could just go stand near the watercooler.

Unless you talk fast I also probably read faster then you talk. I can also skim information I don't care about, and pay careful attention to stuff that I do. If I find what you have to say especially interesting I probably want to save it, something much easier to do if it is written.

Yeah, for most v-blogs I agree. It's a talking head mumbling on and on without the organization that writing demands.

That said, if you look at some of Thunderf00t's old stuff on youtube, it was incredibly rich and interesting and funny, and I don't think he could've gotten the same effect in a blog.
But it's really labor intensive and demanding, and I think a lot of people that do stuff like that, the quality will start to wane after a while.

I agree that vblogs can be great. A good personality that is talking about well thought out points, that is able to maintain a coherent thought throughout the video can be a great watch. Cgp Grey is a good example of this. Not only is his videos well thought out but he makes good use of the video format with entertaining or useful graphics.

I can also see vblogs with little informative content being entertaining if that is their goal.

Well usually I like blogs but that is because most vlogs suck. Basically all formats have their own use and there are often a variety of options to pick from or even going with some type of combination can work as good as one content type if not even more effective and efficient.

Blog for same reason I read news and don't watch it generally. I can read an article many times quicker than it takes a person to say the same thing.

Personally I prefer vlog because I always have a difficult time penning down my thoughts:hmm:

Same here. I'm a cross country runner and about two years ago I started with a running and nutrition blog. I started out with a simple wordpress blog hosting option using 1&1. I got up to about 200-300 visitors per month, but my blog stalled from there. At the same time I started my Youtube Channel with healthy recipes and simple workout routines and got a lot more views and subscribers on there. So I also decided to incorporated almost all of my videos into my site, turning it mostly into a vlog and it has worked out great so far I'm now consistently getting over 1000 visitors per month and about 2-3k views on Youtube.

So I def prefer vlogs, since they are usually more interactive, but of course it also depends on the topic.

I prefer v-logs because I can notice non verbal communication cues missing from blogs.

I prefer blogs because I can cut and paste certain text quickly into forums if I want to discuss some part of them. Yes I can type it in but if it's long then I have to pause the video often as my typing speed may not match my viewing speed.

So I guess I'm the one that prefers both for different reasons.

Both are having own pros and cons. But personally I prefer Blogs. The reason is - I can think as much as I need to write on a topic.

Blogs. They're far faster to consume, since I read faster then people typically talk, and it's far easier to skip around in.

Vlog is what sir ? I am really confused about that two items.

Blog = weB Log : Some unholy portmanteau of diary and self published advice column.

Vlog = Video Log : The even more unnatural video version of the former. This is what the TV show Max Headroom was warning us of.

I don't like "generic" blogs to begin with, but I absolutely loathe, despise, and abominate vlogs. Though I will say they have one thing going for them. It's much easier to completely ignore them than it is blogs, since there's always the slight chance that a word or two, or even complete phrase, in a blog might catch the eye before one can hit "ctrl-W."^_^

Vlog=In depth... . Blog= WTF is he rambling about.
FTFY - in my experience, anyway. (All these years later, I still have no idea why anyone would want to watch some random person-on-the-Interwebz "unboxing" a graphics card or power supply, for example...:hmm
