Both. They are nice.

Dogs poop outside, but have to be walked, and frequently bathed. Cats are quiet, but somewhat malicious.

So it's a wash.

Cats for sure.
Have had many of both.
They are both great in different ways, but cats are just so much easier to own, therefore making them my favorite.

Dogs are too needy. A cat is a perfect pet for someone who is only half committed to owning a pet.

Not all dogs do. My German Shepard only gets a wash every 6-8 weeks unless he decides to be a bastard and roll around in something nasty (hasn't happened in 5 months).

Dogs BTW. There is something about being greeted at the door with a dog that acts as though its been years since he has seen you.

I love them both equally. I love almost all animals actually.

My two cats do this but they are Maine Coons. They never fail to welcome me home. Without a doubt the best cats I've ever had.

We have one of each, but i like cats more just because they are easier. Dog is like having a human child. Lots of maintenance.

Having a dog is nicer when you have kids to pooper scoop for allowance money I would imagine.

My cat tears down the stairs and runs to the door to greet me when I get home. I know that 90% of her motivation is the desire to be fed but whatever, I'm ok with buying her love.

Cats are generally regarded as useless but they can be great for pest control. I haven't seen a mouse in my house since I adopted my cat.

Oh, and both cats and dogs vary greatly in personality and temperament, so it depends on the cat and the dog really.

They'll do it even if we come home in the middle of the day or other people come over. They're generally interested to see who's arriving and if that person will give them attention. Maine Coons are supposed to be a little standoffish but still very social, however these cats are all about the interaction.

Yeah, I was figuring once a month as "frequent" compared to a cat. That's how often we bathed the dog I had as a kid during the summer. (Winter was less frequent.)

Dogs BTW. There is something about being greeted at the door with a dog that acts as though its been years since he has seen you.

My cat used to come greet me when I came home (I'd get out of my car, see her in the window, and then she'd be standing by the front door by the time I got there. She's squeak a couple times, then walk away.)

Then I moved in with somebody else and we have 3 cats between us. After some fights, they decided where the lines were, and my cat is generally disinterested in leaving "her" territory (which doesn't include the first floor).

But god help me if I stand still in her half of the house, because it's a full on SNUGGLEATTACK time.

Cats require alot less effort, but still prefer a dog. They play better, and tend to be more appreciative.

Being a guy, dogs. Probably will always have a dog or two around the house.

Not addressing you in particular, but this reminds me.

Why are dogs considered inherently masculine, and cats feminine?

Depending on how interested you are in either misandry or misogyny, and how you pick and choose your stereotypes, you can make a pretty compelling case for it going either way.

At the very least, I can respect my cat because she kills things, sleeps a lot, and doesn't give a fuck.

Ever hear, "Man's best friend"? There's a history between man and dog that goes back 30,000 years.

Cats. I hate dogs. They get on my damned nerves. I don't like to be barked at, jumped on, or drooled on, and they stink. Dogs have no finesse. They're loud and disgusting; like furry rednecks.
