Do you put ice in your cat/dog's water bowl on hot days?

How can frozen water not be good for a dog? That has to be some of the strangest ****** I ever heard.

Really?

Our dog/cats are all indoor. I came home today from a walk with the dog and he was panting pretty hard. I filled up his water bowl and threw some ice cubes in it. Dog didn't seem to mind.

nah. do dogs in the wild have ice water? i dont see the point.

ill give them an ice cube as a treat sometimes because they like it, but thats unrelated to the temp outside.

I didn't say it was gospel, I just said I'd heard it somewhere. I think it had something to do with being too cold for them. It's probably not even true anyway.

No, but I give my dogs ice cubes to chew on.... they seem to love them.

When my dog eats an ice cube she usually barfs immediately after. I never give her ice or ice water...oddly enough they sometimes fall out of the freezer when I open it so she does manage to get a hold of one every once in a great while.

No, I run the a/c.

The kitties love running water, and sit by the faucet and wait for me to turn it on.

Do humans in the wild eat with forks and knives?

I don't see YOUR point.

Plus it wouldn't be a pet if it was a wild animal.

And yes, judging by how much my dog gets excited to hear the ice cubes rattle in the fridge on hot days... I put them in her bowl as well as my cup o' water.

My cats are indoor cats, and I leave the a/c running. Back when one of my kitties was sick, the vet told me to put water all around the apartment (it's a 1 bedroom with a sunroom) so he'll have an easier time staying hydrated. I put a bowl of water in my bedroom, near their favorite sunning spot, and the normal one in the kitchen. They seem to drink more water since they're too lazy to go to the kitchen, I guess. Still, when they want to hang out with me in the bedroom they like the convenience. Same thing with their sunning spot.

It had to be ATOT.:frown:

IIRC, if it's too cold it'll make a dog vomit. I used to feed my dog popsicles and ice cubes, she didn't take to that very well after a while.
