Do you put your computer tower on your desk?

I don't understand why people would ever put a tower mainframe on top of a desk. They belong underneath a desk, hidden from view.

Why would you want a noisey device sitting close to your face and your screen?

Do you commit this heinous act?

When I had a desktop I had it on the desk behind my monitor because the cats would rub against it if it were on the floor, they know they aren't allowed up on the desk though and would not go up there to fuck with it.

Big difference in a tower and a mainframe. Every mainframe I have seen wouldn't fit on a desk.

When I built my house I built my desk into the corner of the office and had them make a cabinet with a slide-out platform at the bottom to sit my tower on. Then I installed two 110v quiet cabinet fans on each side for ventilation. It works awesome and quiets my rig a considerable amount when I crank its fans up.

I'm sure its not better than an O/C rig sitting out in the open, but I'm happy with the solution.

Before this house though - towers were always on the floor except for rare occasions like actively working on the machine while running, etc.

The basement at my parents' house flooded every few years, until they got a drainage system put in around the perimeter of the house. (The landscapers were morons when the house was built - the ground sloped toward the house on the front, one side, and the back.)
Being on the desk kept the tower and some of the cabling well out of harm's way.

In my apartment now, the tower's on the floor, being a good little dust sponge.

I can't wait til future arrives where kids would laugh at us and our big ass PC towers back in the day.

It's inevitable we'll get a hard-drive sized PC, glass-thin displays, and most will be cloud computing.

I have a small desk in the living room. Not enough room between the desk legs for a chair and the case.

I put it on top because I like to look at it and because it gets a lot less dust that way.

I put it beside my desk as far away from where I sit as possible.. because it gets noisy when I play games.

Bingo. Have already moved to slates for just about everything.

Nope. But my next system will be a standard desktop so I can have easy access to the drives and USB ports and such.

Ideally with more ports.

I have had my PC in many places. You didn’t have an option for above your desk, which is where mine is. It is about Top of Monitor height. I have found that next to wall, the computer picks up the cool wall air and the temperature inside is cooler.

When the computer is on the floor, it picks up the dust from the carpet or floor when you walk. Yes, when you walk on the carpet it stirs up the dust in the carpet and gets sucked into the intake of the computer. Even with frequent vacuuming, a floor level computer will get two or three times dirty faster than a computer mounted higher. If you have to leave your computer on the floor, try and raise it up a bit by using bricks a cinder block or even just some old encyclopedias to get it off the ground
