Do you regret hoarding old dvds/cds/games?

I kept so many around my house. I thought I'll watch these again or play this game again sometime. This has only happened 1/100 times. I just sold a giant box of 18 items to decluttr and I'm only getting like $15 for it. Am I wrong in thinking I should have resold the games and dvds when they were newer to recoup like 70% of the price? Thoughts?

I saw that pattern 10 years ago. People always seem to think a new DVD or CD is a good Christmas/Birthday gift when in fact you just watch/listen to is once and then it sits on a self for the rest of its life.

I'm thinking if I just beat a game or watched a video and sold it on FS/FT..does 70% sound about right?

i have friends that still have shelves and shelves of old dvds, games, bluerays, cds, etc. It really seems anachronistic now.

CDs and DVDs for games seem silly now that steam and such exist. I've never bought a movie as renting makes more sense to me. Music CDs I've got by the bushel basket with more on the way. I don't see that changing unless more titles come out in lossless format and more online retailers start supplying the liner notes with the music files.

How about piles of VHS tapes. We don't even have a VHS player. Saved all the Disney movies for grandchildren.

That is a very worthwhile cause. You can convert/get converted all those tapes into digital. My video camera, that I bought all kinds of lenses and filters for, uses MiniDV TAPES. A 1-hour tape takes exactly 1 hour to capture b/c it's tape and plays in real time as opposed to a digital file that you can upload in a minute or two. PITA, but I keep ALL the tapes, even after capturing them to digital.

On a related note: I have a 16mm film of me as a newborn baby and my parents/family that I've never seen. I need to get that digitized for posterity.

I only have about 10 DVD's, never was too thrilled with the format, and I still buy BDs and CDs. I could probably get rid of a few of my physical games though, I have some I won't be playing again that have no collector interest to me. I wouldn't say I regret anything though, I'm not drowning in a hoard.

I regret hoarding games.

I buy with a good sale, but never get around to playing them (maybe when I'm in a retirement home). My Steam library is a waste of money.

I have two cupboards full of game boxes.
Don't regret it in the least, since a lot of them are puurrrrdy (eg. Stonekeep, Age of Conan, etc.)

yeah

I've stopped buying movies because of it. I have a DVD rack full of DVDs than I won't really watch again because I don't re-watch movies all that often. Now I'll just rent or borrow.

Games I have no issue with keeping but I had a massive collection of DVDs which I may watched once. I'm in the process of getting rid of everything and cleaning off my storage rack. Music CD's I'm still keeping but in storage containers rather than a storage rack.

Yes, that is why i sold all of them (after i ripped them of course) to a local used place that buys them and comics etc. And i dont buy either anymore. I rent from redbox or use netflix now. All they did was sit and collect dust and take up room. What a waste of money and resources.

Nope because it was obvious years ago that spending $15 on a movie I watch on so is stupid. Apparently people are still paying $20-25 for shit like hot tub time machine 2 because I see these movies at Walmart all the time.

Dirty, filthy pirate.

Keeping rips after you sell the originals is not fair use in any sense.

No because I don't hoard them. Only ones that are particularly great or I'm especially fond of do I keep around. I probably only have like 2-3 shelves of the stuff at this point. Pretty reasonable to me.

Wow ...

I stopped buying DVDs years ago as I could foresee the advent of online streaming cutting into sales of physical media. I have tried to convince the wife and asked her not to buy me any more DVDs but she still buys a few for herself each year. As for the comment above ... when the day comes that the DVD format goes the way of the dinosaur I plan on ripping any dvds that I wish to a common format that will hopefully survive me.

As for games ... I have a "treasure chest" full of games as old as late 90s that I treasure greatly. I may not play them much but I do have the memories. I have no regret abouth those ... or buying used PC gaming software as it becomes avaialble.
