Whenever I sneeze and someone says "Bless you" to me, I say, "I don't have any demons in me, why would you think that I do?" They usually look at me puzzled, and I explain that 'bless you' originated with people who thought that a sneeze was the bodies way expelling demons and that saying 'bless you' helped to prevent them from reentering.

It's possible they look at you funny because of your inability to just say "Thanks", and that they weren't looking for an inaccurate description of why people say "Bless you"

I say "gesundheit" if it's someone I know, but don't say anything to random people.

I refuse to do it. It's just silly to say bless you. I have never understood it and I never will.

Generally I say 'gesundheit'.
If it's someone I'm familiar with, I say 'did you get any on you?'
