Do you shoot off fireworks even if they are illegal?

This year we avoided the cops (normally we just give them our sparklers and firecrackers and keep the good stuff hidden).

Instead we had an injury. My cousin got a shard of plastic embedded in his arm last night when a mortar tube we were using shattered. Defective Shell and cheap tube FTL.

I think this is the last year we light these off. My family was pretty upset, and I'm getting too old to be acting like a pyro. Maybe just bottle rockets from now on.

I've never seen anybody get injured with fireworks unless they were doing something stupid. I try to stand behind something in case the tube tips over and shoots the mortar in my direction.

We spent the 4th at Ocean Shores this year. There were thousands of people on the beach blowing up millions worth of stuff. It looked cool enough that night. The people did a decent job of picking up the garbage at the launch areas, but all that red paper and little cardboard parts that fly out were generally ignored. It was drifted into the dune grass like red snow.
I was ambivalent before today.
After spending a couple of hours picking up the beach today, I am less than thrilled about fireworks.

I'm in LA now, and yesterday there were illegal fireworks going off on every block of every street in every direction for miles. But let's pretend people have respect for our overbearing government.

I do mind, however, that some asshole is shooting them off right now about a block or two over from my home and it' s 11:00pm here. I have to get up at 4:00am to go to the airport. Either they are going to quit or I'm calling the damn cops on the inconsiderate assholes.

It's one thing to shoot them off on the weekend when most everyone is off but when everyone is going back to work the next day, have some consideration for those that work.

I agree completely. Theres a time for fun and then theres a time for bed. We also have some idiots living on our block (like everybody else). Of course they kept with the fireworks until after midnight. And not just run of the mill stuff either - very loud and probably expensive ones. Sounds as loud as a shotgun blast. And they were spacing in them in 20 min intervals so as you were finally drifting to sleep, hoping that it was over......BOOM!!!!

It was now 12:49 AM and I had to call the fire department. I dont know what they did but I didnt hear a peep out of them after the phone call and not even a peep today either. I know this is temporary however, as they are a group of renters and 20-something partiers who are usually outside shouting and partying and drinking and smoking and fighting and peeling out, etc. until well past midnight on the weekend. The cops are quite familiar with them and things have quited down considerably over there over the last few months, but I know its only temporary. :'(

I like watching the news and seeing and hearing about all the dipshits that burn and blow themselves up on the 4th. I saw a story yesterday where some dude firing a mortar blew his arm off. We had one the year before that was firing a "Homemade Cannon" and when it blew up it took him with it and nearly killed his buddy next door. The insanity never stops.

A few friends and I have been having our own little "shows" for the last 15 yrs.

We scrape $1,500 - 2 grand together, buy in bulk, and get some great deals from our friendly fireworks distributor.

Everything is laid out on three 4x8 sheets of plywood and fused together.

Light the fuse, step back, and watch a nice display for @ 6 minutes. :awe:

I go down to Va every 4th to see my dad. His friends always get trashed and light off fireworks. 2 years ago a friend bounced one off a roof (hence the first statement). Last year they started sharing bottles with multiple rockets in them... and after the first one took off *LOOK OUT* when the second one is zipping off sideways. This year it was sadly uneventful.
