we used to do illegal ones as kids. this year though theyre being pretty tough on illegal fireworks so i havent heard many yet. ive noticed that in recent years that alot of people seem to have professional grade fireworks around here, which we was never the case when we were kids. if you drive down the highway on 4th of july or chinese new year you literally see what looks like professional fireworks shows being done by people in their backyards. its really cool, i applaud that type of illegal behavior

Not in the past 20 or so years, but living in places where the fireworks stands of Wyoming were only a couple of hours away...Hell yes. Every 4th of July, I had at least a couple of hundred $$ worth of good fireworks. Always a thousand or more firecrackers, cherry bombs when they were available, rockets, mortars, roman candles, etc. No "safe and sane" crap, very few bottle rockets, (too tame) just BIG BANG stuff and stuff that went 100 or more feet into the night sky.

My kids still laugh about shooting of fireworks in 6" of fresh snow ...and still snowing when we lived in Wyoming.

Nowadays, if the grandkids are going to be here, my wife will buy a small package of "safe and sane" garbage for them, but that's it.

Nope. A few years ago, maybe. But the Brown people hate is so strong these days, that I would get arrested and hit with a bullshit terrorism charge.

And we all know you'd deserve such a charge...dammed "dot-dot" anyway...

I do. I don't want somebody starting a fire that could get out of control and burn down houses (like mine). We get some big fires here in Colorado. Here's the latest.

Yeah my area is experience a record heat wave right now and I've seen plenty of dry fields all over the place.
I think most of the country is having a heat wave.

Yes. Just have to go 20 minutes to cross state lines into Indiana and get all the good stuff. Cops don't care and will leave you alone on 4th weekend.

Which place? I've always liked the Shelton Fireworks next the the Ohio state line... that place is like a Walmart filled with things that go boom

no.

the ban on fireworks is pretty easy to justify when you live in an area where every house is 3' next to eachother.

Where I live, you can launch fireworks outside of the city but only on your own private property. What actually happens is that people go a few miles into the country and down a dirt road on some farm.

Nobody really cares and farmers don't mind as long as you pick up after yourself. Any other day of the year than the 4th of July and it might get you in trouble though.

I used to but they just scare the bejesus out of my dog so I stopped a few years ago. They are technically illegal here (FL) but if you sign a waiver stating your using them to scare birds away from your crops your allowed to buy 'em..

I used to shoot off firecrackers (bottle rockets, mighty mites, etc) on Halloween. Occasionally a Roman candle, but in my recent years I have lost the appetite for it.

What I don't understand is why people in Ontario shoot off fireworks on Victoria Day, but not Halloween.

Fireworks on Halloween? Marvelous idea...

Nothing better than throwing a couple of cherry bombs in the neighbor's pumpkin!!

Yesterday a neighbor had some that they usually use for large shows, I know they are super expensive, so they were doing about one every 5 minutes. Until the cops and fire trucks showed up.

The type he was using is typically shot over a river, not a residential neighborhood. The bang from them going off was shaking my house from about 2-3 blocks away. It was cool to watch though!

lat night we had a party and someone brought fireworks. The cops showed up and asked me if I had any fireworks. I said no and then they found fireworks. The people who brought the fireworks owned up and the cops were really cool and let them load them into their cars .

Then they wrote me a ticket for 257 bucks. I'm still puzzled how I got a ticket for discharging fireworks when I was in a lawn chair drinking beer....

Probably because it was going on at your house. <shrug>

I found out a while ago that the cops were in my neighborhood last night as well busting folks for fireworks. Apparently several houses got hit with folks getting hauled off to jail for possession of illegal fireworks. It's a misdemeanor, but the cops routinely haul you to jail.

12700 H&S – (a) Except as provided in Section 12702 and subdivision (b), any person who violates any provision of this part, or any regulation issued pursuant to this part, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) nor more than one thousand ($1,000) or by imprisonment in the county jail for not exceeding 1 year, or by both such fine and imprisonment.

(b) A person who violates any provision of this part or any regulations issued pursuant to this part, by possessing dangerous fireworks shall be subject to the following:

(1) A person who possesses a gross weight, including packaging, of less than 25 pounds of unaltered dangerous fireworks as defined in Section 12505, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine of not less than five hundred dollars ($500) or more than one thousand dollars ($1000), or by imprisonment in the county jail for not exceeding one year, or both that fine and imprisonment. Upon a second or subsequent conviction a person shall be punished by a fine of not less than one thousand dollars ($1000) or by imprisonment in the county jail not exceeding one year or by both that fine and imprisonment.
