Do you shop in retail stores anymore?

I'm talking places like, Home Deport, Petco, GNC, etc etc etc. Not grocery stores or places that sell food.

I noticed recently that almost everything I purchase for around the house or for non food related things, I buy off Amazon. With Prime, I get free shipping on almost everything, which makes it cheaper than driving to said store to buy the same thing in person, even if the prices are exactly the same. I even get it generally in 2 days, which isn't a terribly long time to wait if you plan for things in advance. Additionally, many of the things I buy, I can't find in a store nearby such as car detailing products.

The real question is though, is this me being lazy (you old timers will say so) or is online shopping like this really the way of the future? Hell, you can even have your groceries ordered and delivered to you now around here.

Food and maybe 50% of my clothes I still buy in person. Shoes I generally always like to try on, and sometimes pants. Most shirts, hoodies, etc I am the same size, and if the fit is off, I will take it to a tailor.

i use amazon a lot, but i also go to retail stores for stuff like clothes or just something i need quick. i go to home depot still because its like 3 minutes from my house so it's convenient.

but i definitely order a lot from amazon. i typically have like 1 or 2 packages shipped to my house each week.

now that amazon is charging tax though, i don't know if i will be getting big ticket items from them or if i will be going to the store to get them. i guess it will just depend on the price and how i'm feeling at the time.

Probably 99% of my purchases (non-tech) are made in B&M stores. However...often, whenever possible, I'll order the stuff for store pickup...and get Fat Wallet cash credit...

I just ordered a shop vac last night from Amazon, and did not pay tax. Is it only on some items?

Everything but food and clothes we buy online. Even for clothes there are some standard items that I know sizing on like shoes or jeans I'll buy online.

For certain items like televisions or kitchen appliances I'll check out in store and then order it online because it's cheaper.

sure... there are some things that I wouldn't want to buy online (eg: paint) or if it's some combination of not wanting to wait, just picking up a small item or two, or not exactly knowing what I want and preferring to just wanted the aisles looking around.

I've switched to mostly online. But, I always do a check. If the price difference for buying locally is not much and I would prefer not to wait, I will buy it in a store.

Also, for large items I generally buy in stores (furniture, etc).

Depends on the product for me. If it's something I'll be using regularly (ie, golf clubs, tennis racket, etc.) and I have a store I can go to and "try before you buy" ... I do that. Some things like musical instruments I will NOT buy online. An instrument is something you need to play before you buy it. A standard 94' Strat at your local shop is not the same as a standard 94' Strat bought on Musicians Friend. Other than those special case products, food & clothes... everything is online. Hell, sometimes I buy non-perishable items online as well because it's just easier. I have broadened my horizons beyond just Amazon though

I prefer to shop in stores, but they can't compete with online deals. I just pick my battles and save money where I can.

For example, last week I bought a $329 @ Walmart car seat that sells on Amazon and Target a for $296. I picked it up on eBay new for $193 shipped.

Home Depot and Lowes will give you deals if you buy bulk from them. Usually 10% or more. That typically will offset shipping or tax, but maybe not shipping and tax.

curious which one you got. i actually bought a shopvac yesterday from lowes but it was marked down from $100 to $33, and i did some drywall patch work over the weekend and had a mess to clean up.

80% of stuff bought online. Only buy large items, some clothing, and large items (like plywood/2X4's) at B&M's.

Home Depot or Lowes, yeah, because there are times when I just need something and don't want to wait for it. Other than that, it's pretty rare anymore.

I buy as much as I can on Amazon, but I do shop at Menards (rebates) and Kohls (30% off coupons). Other than that I rearely set foot in a non food store.

I do a lot of shopping at Target, Costco, and Home Depot -- especially since Amazon started charging sales tax in my state on 10/1. Target prices are usually similar to Amazon, and if not, they'll price match. Still have to use Amazon for some unique items we use regularly (2" furnace filters, whole house water filter, etc).

Fixed that for you. ()

I buy almost everything locally. Everyone here price matches or comes very close to amazon and the sales tax helps.

About the only thing I shop for online is food since our grocery store has free delivery and I don't enjoy fighting the crowds.

I do, I bough about $200 worth of stuff from Lowes, I bough some free standing shelves, they were actually cheaper than Amazon. Plus I got cardcash at 12% discount plus 10% off coupon from ebay. Now, no one can beat that price!

I buy things at stores almost always.

TVs .... I want to see what they look like before I buy. Therefore the store is providing a service (sort of) so I support them. Same for running shoes. A real running store has people than know their shit.

last big purchase online was probably my bench and squat rack. Best bang for the buck and quite frankly if you pick a make and model you probably can't find it locally anyway.
