Do you sleep on your back?

I've been reading a lot about sleep paralysis and the sometimes accompanying hallucinations of an "old hag" or "dark figure" in the room.

In story after story, people said it happened only when they slept on their back for a change, but they normally slept on their stomach or side. I have tried those two positions but either my neck gets screwed up (stomach sleeping) or a limb falls asleep and I wake up not recognizing the cold hand dangling in my face (side sleeping). For as long as I can remember I've slept on my back with arms at the sides.

It stuck out in all of the experiences I read that most of those people don't sleep on their back. *shrug*

I always try to start out that way because I've been told it's better for your back and such... But I just can't and always end up on my side or stomach.

I sleep on my right side. Occasionally the left if I have to, but only once in the last 10 years or so have I slept on my back... that was when I got my wisdom teeth out.

I usually sleep on my back but apparently last night did on my side. Upon waking I found that I had the most asleep arm I have ever had in my life. Couldn't even move it at the shoulder joint. It came back surprisingly fast.

koreans (as well as asians?) sleep on their back on the hardwood floors.

i find it awkwardly when i first saw them sleeping on the floor. i tried myself and it wasn't so comfortable. but i tend to sleep on floor when i'm drunk because you know, you cannot feel anything in drunk mode.

according to that site, i'm more like a yearner...i tend to have my arms in one way. i had cats in the house and they tend to rub against my hands.

That has happened to me more than once, usually because I was laying in some absurd position when I woke up. It really is funny, I remember the first time it happened. The offending arm was actually laying on my side or at my side, like someone came in and draped their arm across me before going to sleep. I still remember, the first thing I thought was OMG HOLY CRAP WHOSE IS THAT and jumped like someone threw ice water on me. I realized what it was half a second later when I tried to jump up in bed and only one arm moved  It has happened a time or two since then, but now I just jump a little and laugh.

Yeah I find it rather surprising at how easy it is to "revive" the sleeping arm. Sometimes I wonder how long it was like that before I wake and notice. I've had it cold and covered in that pin sensation one occasion and I was flailing about trying to get up and turn the light on. Scared the hell out of me (not from estrangement, but fear of damaging the arm).

Im korean, and I sleep on my back alot. I'm perfectly comfortable sleeping on hardwood, concrete, etc.. I also sleep on my side, but its kind of hard to do it on the floor, as your arm jams a bit to much into your ribcage.

I remember when I first had the sensation of a dead hand. I just woke up with a warm and at the same time cold hand on my face, and I had no idea what it was. All I knew was that I had no idea where my hands were, and every time i tried to move them, my face would warm up... I still had no idea what it was... I was that tired. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out that my hand was in danger of suffocating me.

nope, on my side facing to the right on the right side of the bed. exactly like the foetus position on the link posted above. i stay on the right side and dont move the whole night, ill wake up exactly the same. ive tried sleeping on my back, it lasts for a whole 2 seconds before im facing to the right wrapped around a body pillow.

I used to sleep on my stomach and sides, then I started sleeping on my back, I haven't had sleep paralysis in years, and hope I never do. It happened when I would have my face buried in the pillow, on my stomach. Scary.
