Do you swear at work?

We were on a conference call with a with a Sr. Director and two VP's when we were asked if we were able to get past a particularly difficult design issue. The lead architect responds "yeah, and now we're all in here just rubbin' our dicks together... it's all gravy man."

It does help to know a less common language - swear without penalties

Nope, no one swears at my workplace. I did instinctively say "Shit." once after I screwed something up, but I don't believe it was loud enough for anyone else to hear.

Seriously: I would walk the fuck out of any place like that, they value the intellectualism capabilities of the workers at the same level as the BK if they'll nuke a fell'a for dropping an F-Bomb.

A fair amount of swearing goes on at my work. Not directed at people, more just people venting.

I think some people in my office swear for the sake of swearing. It just seems out of character for that person to swear and a bit forced when they actually do. I don't swear in the office because there's already plenty of people stressed without me adding to that stress.

Not in front of the customers. Though if I'm doing a TV gig, it's par for the course. There's not a single journalist or media professional that doesn't swear like a sailor.

On occasion, when talking to other attorneys from my office I will add a word or two for emphasis.

Never with or in front of the staff.

I will swear when talking with outside attorneys if they are friendly and I know them well-enough.

However, I never swear "at" someone related to work.

I do use word "f**K" for grammar purposes - instead of comma or period.
One co-worker does use same word as a "question mark"...

but ...no offense to other people....

I swear more at work than anywhere else. It wasn't a problem until I got transferred to City Hall. Now I just TRY to remember to do it quietly.

Its been up and down. Three jobs ago it was the very vulgar. It was a very mixed group ethnically and the racist jokes flew back and forth in a fury that resulted in an instant aneurysm to anyone who worked in HR within a 2 mile radius. Women were not spared either (nor did they spare the men)

Yet for some strange reason we were all able to be friends and drink/socialize outside of work. Go figure

The job after that could have not been farther at the other end of the spectrum. Everyone had to tiptoe around all the issues because PC was king. Someone brought whine to the gift exchange and a cloud settled over the 'party'. Very rarely did anyone swear and when they did you could tell a lot of people got uncomfortable and fidgety (Which seemed odd for a company of 1200+)

Current job seems to be a mix. Swearing is generally acceptable (within limits) and the jokes get more off color after hours
