F**k yeah we do. My advisor swears like a sailor. The most common phrases you'll hear are, "Son of a bi*ch!", "F*ccccck!", "C*cksucker, Motherf*cker!", "Dammit", "Shit on the b*tches", "God Dammit", "Ahh, F*ck it all", "Como estas, b*tches?"

Other professors have come up and said, you know it's not ok for your advisor to talk to you like that. We're just like, it's ok, it's nothing personal, he's just excitable like that.

I work on cars, swearing is probably the most important tool.

When I worked in an office though, I still would swear on occasion. The GM however held the title. That guy couldn't get more than 4 or 5 words out with dropping an F-bomb, even when there wasn't a problem and he was in a good mood. Of course, he wore pin-stripped suits and cowboy boots. Oddly though, he didn't live on or anywhere near a farm, but in the 'burbs in the middle of the city.

This. It's frowned upon since you're supposed to "act" professional while they are around you. I say "shit" to vent my anger once in a while if something bad happens or someone f**ks up on what they are doing. Some co-workers (black females) who didn't like each other started a shouting match and calling each other names and were fired on the spot.

Everyone cusses in meetings. The f bomb does get dropped but all in good fun. Nobody cusses at anyone, usually just the situation.

At my last office, I sat outside my manager's office, and I was on the side of the office where people were super bitter. They all swore, but my manager especially, so I joined in.

At my new office, I'm the only one that swears out loud just in conversation and in fits of rage. Not so good, but whatever, I don't care anymore.

I do swear like there's no tomorrow in everyday speech though, so it's not a show.

After I got out it was made clear I had to act more professional and not be disgusting. Even if you dont offend anyone you risk alienating people who demand high standards.

It's a steel mill. Even with fairly formal meetings it's pretty bad. Mostly just agitated swearing for effect. It's rare that anybody is truly angry unless a lot of things get fucked in a short amount of time.

When I first started my job we had to go through 5 weeks of very intense training before they would even let us on the phones. When the big day finally came around, we gathered in the training room for one last time. The quality manager came in to give us a pep talk. He is a high level manager, 4 or 5 steps above us pukes. He's also super soft spoken and very professional. So he gives his now famous speech "folks after you log in, your minds are going to go blank. As soon as the first call beeps in your ear, you are going to have the 'oh shit' moment. Its not uncommon to forget where you work or even your name. Just relax and get through it."

I'm so glad he's still around. And from what I understand, he's still giving the "oh shit" speech to all the new hires
