Do you take pride in your car?

I just returned from lunch and when I left I looked in the window of the car I parked next to this morning and noticed the interior looked disgusting, like it hadn't been cleaned in years. Garbage strewn about, crap everywhere, dirt and filth on every surface. Then when I returned I was walking past another car (this guy works in our department) and same thing. Just completely filthy interior.

Even when I was driving a 10 year old Nissan I would wash and wax it periodically, vacuum the interior, clean the glass and armor all plastic, replace the floor mats every couple years. The car still looked in mint condition when I traded it in.

Why would anyone want to spend time in such a filthy environment on a daily basis?

People are slobs.

Am I just being an elitist?

Are you a slob?

My cars always look pretty good but I don't go nuts over them. I did back when I was younger and had sportier cars. Mine are always kept clean inside and I have them washed at a car wash when they need it. I definitely don't have trash all over the car, don't eat or drink anything but water in the car.

Most people are slobs, and don't seem to give a damn about their cars it seems. This is ESPECIALLY true of women. Oh, and you're also an elitist snob.

I really don't care that much about my car. I mean I'm not going to leave a half eaten burger in it, but I'm not going to wash it every week either. Vacuum? Sure... once in a while I guess. I'm just not overly concerned with such things. Then again I don't drive very much so it has little affect on me.

To each their own.

Nah, not really. It is my point-a-to-b device. I take pride in stuff I actually had a hand in building, like my server or my HTPC.

I care way less about cars these days, but I still keep the interior clean and the exterior decently clean. This is no small feat for scar used to transport 3 small children.

I saw a comedian many years ago who said that men keep their cars clean and their apartments messy, and women keep their apartments clean and their cars messy. While not universal, it does seem to be true often.

I try to keep mine looking good but it's tough. I have a hatchback and tends to collect dirt and dust on the rear hatch/bumper due to the aerodynamics. So if I run it through a carwash, I still have to clean that area by hand when I get home because the dirt sticks to the water so I might as well hand wash it to start with.

My neighbor remarked recently that my car always seems clean and hers is always dirty even though I only wash it every 3-4 months lately.

I may go 2-3 weeks without washing my car but I keep the interior pretty clean. There is no garbage lying around or really anything else lying in plain sight either. Probably comes from years working in car rental in the Los Angeles area constantly telling people not to leave things laying around in plain sight or they might get stolen (smash and grab).

I keep the windows clean too. When I have it washed it is at a full service wash, because that's where the elitists go, and they vacuum it and clean the glass.

Two or three times a year I'll have it detailed.

No, not really. I pick up actual trash and stuff, but there are bags and some coats/vests in the back seat since weather is so variable still. I also can't keep up with my dog's goddamn hair.

Its the same with every new car I get.
When I got a Civic Si way back, I couldn't stop keeping it clean.
Same thing when I got the S2000. I spent so much time on that car.
Still have the S2000 but its just a once in a while car now.
I drive my beater Civic around and its pretty messy.

It's kept pretty clean inside and out but more out of not wanting to roll around in an embarrassing garbage filled shitbox than any sense of pride.

I try to keep the exterior washed/waxed regularly but it drives me insane if the interior isn't clean. Of course this is a problem for me with two kids under 4 and a wife that doesn't share my desire to keep the interior of our cars clean.

I regularly have to remove food, trash, papers, etc from her car so it doesn't end up looking like someone lives in it.

Oh and for what it's worth, in the backseats/cupholders/storage areas of the minivan? I don't even want to know what the kids have left in there and/or is growing there.

I've only had 2 cars over 20+ years, so yes. But winter sucks for cleanliness and I don't do auto car washes. I need to get my first wash of the year in soon. My rims are filthy. Inside it's pretty bare (not vacuum clean though) because I never leave junk behind. Paper trash goes in the doors and periodically cleared. The only thing back there is a box of tissues.

People definitely can be slobs with their cars. I'm guessing their houses aren't much different.

I'm an organized and neat person by nature as I was raised to be neat, pick up after myself, etc. I'm not OCD-level but I'm moreso than most people I'd guess. I spent two hours or so yesterday evening vacuuming out my car at the car wash and then wiping the whole thing out with those Armor All cleaning wipes. Gotta run it through the car wash tomorrow still.

It ain't a fancy car (2011 Civic), and wasn't really that dirty (it was dusty and had some ashes from when I still smoked; nothin on the floors or seats), but as I said I was raised to not be a lazy slob.

EDIT: I was the same way with my previous cars: 1991 Chevy Lumina, 1990 Olds Iforgetthename, 1999 Civic.

I take pride in everything I own since it was purchased with my own money. That being said, I do have to prioritize time spent cleaning my cars so the daily driver doesn't get much attention. It stays maintained and I throw trash away, but it rarely gets hand washed. Just not worth it since the paint is going on 13 years old and starting to fade and blister.

My 55lb hairy dog rides in my focus hatch every day to go for walks or to the dog park so it is always full of hair and dirt. It also has some of my moutain biking crap in it which is also filthy. I don't let it get too disgusting but no I'm not a clean freak with it. My miata which is just my fun car I keep a good bit cleaner.
