I hate it.
I only call if it's urgent.

At times I consider it rude when someone calls me. Why the fsck would I want to TALK to you? Text and I'll respond when I have time.

Just the same, I'd rather text someone as it's less intrusive. Calling is like declaring, "you must speak to me NAO!"
Phone calls and voicemail are just a pain in the ass.

Not necessarily emergency situations, but there are a bunch of buildings on my company campus where you are just not going to get a call. Texts get through, and we can even get an EVDO connection to mobile email for some ungodly reason, but calls don't work for shit.

No, I find it much easier to talk on a phone than type. It seems a bit odd that we seem to have done the following in telecommunications:
-Written word via post
-Wires to allow coded impulses to be sent
-Wires with connected devices which actually allow voice communication, no more pesky code key
-Perfection of cellular radio technology allows telephone to be untethered from wires
-Back to using device capable of passing voice communication and small enough to be carried in your pocket as a fancy teletype.

yeah, but when you're talking on the phone, you can pin it between your ear and shoulder, leaving your hands available for reading a newspaper, washing your dog, etc.

I text quite a bit, but it usually depends on the topic/person. If it's something short and to the point I'll send a text. If it's something complicated or long-winded, I call.
