Do you think all the praise the One's build is getting will make Samsung change?

I have no issue with Samsung's build of their phones but I have not seen another Android phone get the kind of praise the One is getting. Even though the S4 will demolish it, I think it will push Samsung to improve the build in the next galaxy, what do you think?

yeah, I'm convinced the next Galaxy S phone will have better materials from reading all the reviews that mention comparing the difference in build quality with the HTC One. TouchWiz will probably remain (unfortunately).

I couldn't care less as long as the SD slot and removable battery is kept.

A few times a year, I go to the beach, hiking or camping etc where a few spare batteries and a bunch of my files on SD is necessary. Carrying a solar charger or a clunky emergency phone charger is unsavory.

they'll wait to see if HTC one's blogger and tech journalist praise transfers to actual mainstream sales. most likely not. but i'd love to to proven wrong...having only one strong player in the android system isnt good.

either way i hope samsung keeps the sd slot/removable batt

I know the One has great build quality and feels great but every time I pick it up I still go "meh".
I don't know why.

thats because no ones had the one long enough to find out all the bugs and defects in it. whe you take into account htc low quality, theres no contest.

its nice to see samsung succeeding by giving the customers exactly what they want. hopefully the other brands learn from that and get rid of nonreplaceable batteries

not unless it affects sales (which i don't think it will) although i have no concern either way as long as i can still swap my battery out and put my own msd card in there

It's hard to say. If Samsung still gets knockout sales, what's to make them use metal? Making a plastic phone is cheaper, its a win win situation for them.

All I know is that the build quality of the One makes my SG3 look and feel like a piece of crap.

You mean it's nice to see Samsung giving SOME customers exactly what they want? I don't want a replaceable battery, I want a phone that doesn't feel like it was made by Fisher Price. Things like removable battery? Meh. How easy it is to dissemble? even bigger meh. OLED screen? ultimate meh.

And don't get me started on that abomination they call TouchWiz

but but but, the One got a 1 or something on the disassembly rating where your SG3 got a 9 or 10!

Nope, Samsung dwarfs every other phone maker when it comes to marketing so they will get a lot more exposure and sales.

why do you assume aluminum=quality? metal means your phone hits the ground twice as hard when you drop it. and i read the speakers are glued onto the "unibody" so you can expect them to break off next time you knock it or drop it

As long as HTC continue to fail at branding and marketing, along with the other Android phone manufactures, I don't think Samsung really has to worry about changing anything. What they are doing is working very well for them. Why screw around with success.

I wish Samsung would consider using something other than plastic. I am not saying this affects build quality, I had a Vibrant and Galaxy Nexus and they were very nice phones. For me it's not the build quality, but the feel of the phone. The plastic just doesn't have the premium feel as other phones. But on the other hand the phones are lighter and more comfortable in the hand.

I do not think that the one has a good build quality just because of the materials which are used to make it. From the time I got my phone (sg3) and first took off the back to insert the battery I was unimpressed with how it is built. The battery door is extremely flimsy and feels as if its on the verge of breaking every time I have to take it off. I have also been unimpressed with the buttons they have always been wobbly and the power button and home button have to be pressed right in the middle in order to do anything. Due to how thin and flimsy the phone feels I have been worried about breaking it. I did not even use it until I got a case for it because I was worried about it breaking.

I did not have any issues I could attribute to build quality when I played around with the One which is why I believe its a much better built phone.

Samsung is making money hand over fist and by far has the biggest grasp on the android market. Why would they use more expensive materials unless they're not on top?

Here's a suggestion: don't drop your phone! Get a rubber case if you're that clumsy. In the 6 years of owning a smartphone, I've never dropped mine because I take care of it. When you see people treat their stuff like crap, guess what happens?

It makes me cringe whenever I see someone's aluminum MacBook Pro scratched and scuffed. It makes me thing "WTF did you do to that thing when 99.99% of the time it's on a flat surface?!?!"

They could sell even more if it was made of premium materials, personally im not paying 6-700 for a plastic phone ever again.

Samsung is always improving their products. The latest news is that they are working on flexible OLED displays to be in the Galaxy Note 3. They won't crack if dropped.

Personally I don't mind the plastic, but I wish they'd use matte plastics with slightly thicker heft a la lumia 920

All of this is pointless anyway. I can count the number of people that use premium phones without some gaudy or at least silicone case on one hand.

I hate aluminum for handheld devices. All my past iphones were beat to hell. My highend sony md and cd players were all beat to hell. My old vibrant still looks like its new.

Yes. Also on the daily in public, trains and such. I rarely see people using smartphones without a case of some sort and the ones I see without a case often has a nice crack in the middle of the screen.

This is purely my personal observation.
