Do you think all the praise the One's build is getting will make Samsung change?

I think if you can go more than a year without dropping a phone at least once then you've just been incredibly lucky. I baby my gadgets to the point of OCD and yet I've already dropped my Nexus 4 once since launch; the pockets of my gym trousers are very shallow and it just fell out when I bent over. I am quite risk averse and REALLY hate putting scuffs in my gadgets, literally I will be incredibly pissed if I drop a naked phone and put a scuff in the housing. If I dropped a One and scuffed the body... This is partly why I don't go quite so nuts over the One's aesthetics, I couldn't use it without a case and I really don't want to pay a premium for something that's going to get covered up.

As grim as the S4's design is, at least it's built somewhat as a mobile device. The One's irreparable screen and unibody are actually pretty damn irresponsible for a mobile device.

I'd love to see phones with fully replaceable casings again, I'd go naked for that in both senses of the word.

Lol why are people promoting cases? I take off and put on my case all the time.

Of course one can be brave and forgo any protection for the One. I'd say good luck and strongly advise to purchase an insurance for accidental damages.

The more I look at it, the One is a design disaster. HTC tried hard to copy Apple and at the same time add their own flavor, but the end result is a spectacular fail.

One would be equally brave not to protect or insure the SGS4. I looked at all the pictures from the iFixit tear down. The assembly appears to lean heavily on the Gorilla Glass 3 for overall structural rigidity. It seems to work, but it doesn't take a super-genius to see that it's sub-optimal. (I'd strongly consider keeping it in an Otter Box Defender when going out.)

With the One's relatively solid-block design, I'd feel pretty safe with a simple silicone-rubber cover.

Otter Box and similar design cases can be a bit of a pain, but a simple silicone rubber cover is EZ on and off all day long.

The aluminum build helps with reception and cools the phone better.

If this is supposed to be some kind of a technical forum, the level of technical depth is hilariously shallow.

but but but... the GS4 can be taken apart easy peasy, you can't even get the One apart to fix it if it breaks!

You're not taking into account here how 90% of the people on this forum can't seem to manage to not drop their phone often so repairing it becomes a necessity.

?? That case has snap on end caps and is likely one of the easiest cases to remove since you don't have to bend the case to take out the phone.

So far a week in and I'm really enjoying my HTC one. Had the Vibrant, then the Radar (Windows 7.8) now this. I actually miss some of the windows features as far as the email and work calender integration goes but overall the One has been fun. It certainly feels nice to hold and use though yes, I do use a thin rubber case on it. For me the deciding factor was not only the metal design but also the form factor (wider and tallerish), the front speakers, and the camera. I think the GS4 looks like a good phone, I just think the One is better suited to me.

I just wish the blutooth would sync right with my car (no song details show) and the phone would sync with skydrive. I also miss my easy zune subscription downloading
