Do You Think BF1942 SUCKS???

I have mixed feelings about this game. I think it's victim to being a great idea with faulty execution. I mean, how long has the demo been available? Months? Despite all that time, the retail version doesn't fix some of those really annoying bugs: can't seem to kill someone unless they're standing still and even with low pings and a fast box the game slows to a crawl when flying near a sinking carrier for example. And, what's with the movement sometimes? Five guys will be running for a plane while the ship is turning and the next thing you know, you're in the water! I also just don't see much love from the folks at EA. Where's the support?

Anyway, these are just some of my feelings. Anyone care to share theirs?

Hmm strange, I don't have any of the problems your talking about. I can kill people that are moving just fine, although this is with a 30-50 ping. I really don't have any complains. Its not a game that i'd play every day for hours on end, cause that could get boring fast. But for a 1 hour break to relax, its awesome.

Good idea, bad execution. Maybe if it used a real engine it would be awesome, but as is it is no good.

It sucks cuz I can't play it with my dated hardware. Seriously, I need to be watchin for attacks from the sky but by the time my screen pans up to check for planes I'm already toast! Of course I haven't played with the video settings yet...just keepin' em at defaults.

I still haven't figured out how to get out of those transport boats. And some b!tch at 1600x1200 with a Ti4600 ALWAYS snipes me with a tank a mile away. ARRGHH!

Of course I just downloaded the demo 2 days ago!

The video defaults suck.. they default to 800x600 32bit. If you have an older system that 32bit will kill ya!

Its not a game i will play all the time, but is great fun for lans.

ok... i played it this morning... caused me to be 2 hours late to work....

i like it... except for the fact that i can't hit anyone unless they're standing still! which is what i love about playing DoD.

now, i think if EA gets their act together and fix some of the netcode issues... this could be the next game with the same popularity as counter strike.

This is exactly what I am talking about! BUT, did EA create this game, or was it coded by a group of foreign enthusiasts who simply sold out to EA? If the latter is the case, they're laughing their way to the bank, and I doubt we'll get the kind of support we're use to seeing with such games.

That's what my controls are set at too, but it didn't work. I had to bunnyhop out the back into the water!

yeah, i think DICE is the developer for this...... their CEO were telling the shareholders the other day about the cd key protection. only one key can be used at one time like half life. if EA want to have a 'half life' sucess story, they need to concentrate on getting patches out in a timely manner.

i have a taste of what this game could become since i just got into it... so i have a month or two to wait before i get impatient, and go play something else instead. before then, they won't get my $39.99..... if someone else sells it for less (like 19.99) i guess i'll just have to buy it. as bug ridden as it is, 19.99 is a good price.

It just sucks that when I spawn.. some plane overhead has some laser guided missiles or something and kills me instantly! It's happened 20 or so times now. :|

EA ist just a publisher. The company who actually makes the game is named Digital Illusions, and has been around since 1992. And yes, they are located in Europe.

At lease you moved the boat.... I was sitting in the boat like a dumbass for a couple minutes this morning and couldn't figure why it didn't move... ."well, it moved the first time i got on, maybe it's a boat bug or not enough people on the boat".....

then i saw the gun and wanted to play with it, ending up becoming the driver of the boat.... lol...

They designed the game engine themselves. There do seem to be some hit/collision detection issues right now; fly a plane within ~3m of the top of a tree and it magically explodes, etc. I have played it on a lan with ~20 people and you can shoot people easily, just like how it is in single player, no leading them etc. The server hosting requirements are pretty steep though; 8Mbit connection and 2.53GHz P4 for 64 player, 3-4Mbit and 2.0GHz for 32 player server.

I got the same probs GTaudiofart has.

Pepsei tells it best that they get about a month (2 if they're lucky) before I get wisked away by something better. If they don't get there junk together by then then you'll see everyone abandoning it. I hate to see a game with such potential die out because of a few (glaring) bugs that ruin the whole experience.

Oh well.

i just don't like the bugs. it's okay. i actually like medal of honor much better. once the iron out the bugs it may be okay.
