i am agaisnt capitalism as a concept... no-one should be able to make excessive amounts of money, as long as there are people who cant make enough to make ends meet.

Fire everyone who makes more than 100k per year and hire 3-10 people to replace them.

Not about appropriate, but I'd respect a boss more for garaging the (nice car here) and using it on the weekends on open roads, and driving something practical in the stop and go. Seems more sensible to me.

That is COMPLETELY different!! A teacher does not take away from a students grades to pay for his expensive car. The exec can afford that car because his workers don't make enough to fill the gas tank of their ten year old POS Dodges with failing a/c.

Wealth is not a finite resource so your statement is fundamentally flawed.

Ahh, it must be comforting to be naive.

Yes, I think it's appropriate. One should not have to feel the need to hide their wealth.

Well I know that if you reduce the salary of the original person who makes 500k per year and hire 8-9 people who make 45-50k per year, the companies finances have not changed, and the unemployment rate has gone down, and the economy indicators have improved.

so if im missing some other important detail... lets hear it.

You left out the part about "some people have high-priced skills and can't be replaced by just anyone." Now, when that comes to some business-manager types, I might agree with your theory.... but if you were going in for brain surgery, would you really want to have a $500K/year neurosurgeon replaced by 10 $50K a year nurses? If you were on trial in court, and might go to jail, would you rather have a $300K/year skilled lawyer replaced by 10 $30K/year paralegals?

Sure, some people are paid far out of proportion to their abilities. But not all highly-paid people are.

Inappropriate? No. Snobbish? Maybe.

I wouldn't even say it's snobbish persay. It's just what they bought to drive. I damn expect everyone in here saying "it's inappropriate!!!" to be just as pissed if the exec bought ANOTHER car to drive "PSH, Benz, that's what he drives when he leaves his lambo/ferrari at home"

you guys are right.

the company should mandate everyone drive a geo metro or other cheap small car. that way NOBODY will get jealus over what anyone else drives. No matter that someone worked a little harder, studied a little longer is a whole bunch smarter then the others. Also they should all live apartments and have the same furniture and Tv's.

hell might as well take it one step farther. everyone should make the same pay for the job. Everything should go to the goverment. so they can make sure everyone has food, shelter and a job. they can put them in the job they are best suited for.

then they can just issue cars to people!

such a good idea.

Nope. It just tells me that I'm working for the right company. I don't want to work for a company where the CEO drives a beat up truck.

The CEO of the company I work for drives his Bentley Continental GT to work almost single everyday.

Bull. You're paid what you're worth. If you have a brain in your head and the true desire to work hard, you'll eventually prosper. The reason that the workers can't afford to fill their gas tanks is because those same workers stupidly spend $90+ per month on cable, and another $70/month for a fancy cell phone.

I absolutely cannot understand how "poor" workers manage to afford video game systems, fancy new cell phones, and cable TV.

Sure, some people are paid far out of proportion to their abilities. But not all highly-paid people are.
Additionally, paying people beyond their abilities motivates those in lower-paying positions. The CEO's salary and bonuses are not just because of his own talents, but also to inspire hard work and effort in lower-level employees. You get a lot more work, and higher-quality work, out of a $45K/year employee who is honestly trying to become a highly-paid executive in 15-20 years. High pay for executives achieves psychological buy-in for the overall system and makes people believe that with sufficient hard work and talent they too can rise to a position where they are paid more than they are personally worth.

Sometimes, it's the position that receives the salary more than the person.
