That's the way of doing it when you have manners and also the self-awareness to know that disrupting what others see as honor-worthy is generally counterproductive to what you're trying to accomplish. Kaep also has numerous other venues for expressing his position that would have made his point better able to be heard and comprehended by the target audience. People tend to close their ears to what you're saying when you choose a 'shock value' delivery method like burning a flag or publicly sitting during pledge, et cetera since people can just focus of what you did rather than engage with the content of your speech.

The story that I read is, he converted to the Nation of Islam (Black Islam, Malcom X, etc.) because of his girl friend. If he wanted to make a statement that actually accomplished something he picked a piss poor way of going about it. Actually it's worse than that. I would argue he did HARM to the movement he was trying to help, as it gives the opposition ammo to paint supporters as unpatriotic and unAmerican. His little stunt took away sympathy in trade for exposure.
