Do you think people without a degree are generally earning less money than those have?

Otherwise, how couldn't they get a degree?

Updated:

Have to change the question a bit because every job asks for some kind of degree now.

not everyone can afford college, not everyone can handle college, and not everyone can stand it, etc.

Everybody is ignorant. Only on different subjects. The arguement should be what is 'intelligence'.

Not necessarily. I know some very intelligent people who don't have degrees and some total dumb a**es that do. It totally depends on the individual.

You have it backwards. Ive known lots of people with degrees who have worked for me. The biggest problem is that they get educated but dont apply their knowledge in most cases.

Remember the old street smarts / book smarts argument? Its still true.

Intelligence is an over-used term. Being a good student is quite different from being a bright person. Genius is genius, bright is bright, a sheet of paper saying that you're good at studying and understanding school subjects means nothing.

Intelligence is one thing, and diligence is another. I have no respect for the smart and lazy people. People who aspire to work hard and continue their education, regardless of their intelligence are the successful ones in my book.

People who can't afford to go to college....well that's kind of bull crap. Community college is incredibly cheap and if someone works hard enough, scholarships are always available.

One thing I've definitely learned in my lifetime... if you want it bad enough, you will get it.

Maybe sometimes but...............I've got one guy whom works for me that has never gone to school, never gotten a certificate, nothing........he read up on everything he could as computers matured throughout the 80's and got a job without anything in a small town helping a guy repair and build systems. At any rate, he works for me now, I have a degree and 3 certs., and the other guys I have all have at least certs...........this guy will blow us all away with hands on knowledge and can diagnose a problem easier than most! No school past high school at all!

So, I'll have to say no!

If one defines intelligence by the traditional method of IQ, yes, as a group college graduates are more "intelligent" then non college graduates. That's a fact, and isn't even debatable.

Does that mean anything in real life? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. IQ does not automatically equal success; nor does a college degree.

I know I was a lot smarter after I got my degree. Actually, I think that there are really intelligent people who never go to college because they have other desires in their lives. I also think that almost any one can get some kind of degree if they are willing to spend the time. This means that there are probably tons of idiots out there with a college education. In a real world situation you still have to be able to apply any knowledge you may have picked up, and a degree isn't going to help you do that.

I believe that people who believe that people who have a degree are necessarily more intelligent than those without one are less intelligent than those who believe otherwise.

Absolutely not. Many intelligent people don't continue their education at all, or drop out of college to make money.

Duh, of course there are people without degrees that are less intelligent, but that is not generally true. It's just the choice an individual makes. You don't have to be smart to go to university and college and get a job that pays $500,000+ a year. All you need is determination and motivation. I didn't say it was easy, or anything. But you don't need very high intelligence.

Why do you think you hear about stupid things happening in office places and places where you'd think only "intelligent" people would be? Because stupid people can make it there too! There are stupid/ignorant people everywhere, even you or I could be one! *Gasp*

Intelligence doesn't really help you much in todays world, if you have everything else you need (good childhood, parents, motivation, etc). But if you have most of the things you need, AND you are above average intelligence, then it is very nice to have.

Well, since only a small % of people have college degrees, and you can't count the poor, homeless, illiterate amongst them, I'd say that the average college graduate is more intelligent than the average... umm... non-college graduate. That doesn't mean that there aren't intelligent people among their ranks.

I think it depends on the area you decide to go in. I've seen people in the construction trade unions who make a killing over some liberal arts degree people.
