Do you think the 1080 Ti will even be released?

Given how Vega is now rumored to be slated for Q1 2017 and how underwhelming the 480 was, how likely is it that it even comes close to GP102 in performance? If it instead stalls near GTX 1080, NV could just continue to sell the Titan X without any AIBs and people would gobble them up anyway. Massive profit$.

Why would NV even want to undercut themselves in such a scenario with the 1080 Ti? The only time they release such a GPU is when AMD is breathing down their neck. That now looks unlikely.

possibly but doubtful.

unless it's a full chip.

but it won't be a "ti" it'll be a titan x black or something.

So everybody thinks they'll make keychains out of the cores that don't make the Titan cut?

Seems more logical in the end to salvage the chips and sell them.

I guess they could use them for workstation cards?

Big black hole in pricing structure points to something in the middle most likely.

I voted yes....But not in the market for the hope so part at least.

I think there will be. They will exhaust everybody buying the Titan X and finally when everybody who wants one has one the 1080ti will come out to get more sales. nVidia has demonstrated one heck of a release cadence.

Nvidia likes money, so probably yes. The Titan XP has a limited (though surprisingly large) market. Once everyone who wants one has one, they'll release something else to encourage upgrades for 980ti owners on the fence.

There will probably be one. Plenty of people with 980Ti's that think the 1080 isn't much of an upgrade but also think $1200 for a card with a blower is a bit much.

Probably eventually. In a year or so. Hell the regular 1080's aren't even fully on the market yet. It's still really hard to get one unless you have your finger on the buy button.

Up to 25% cut from full chip. 15% loss in performance from Titan X. Nvidia will wait for Vega announcement to drop the 1080ti. Since the Titan X has 12gb of GDDR5X, its possible they may use 12gb 8gbps GDDR5 on the 1080ti.

This is like asking immediately after the 980 was released. Give it 6 months.
And if you fancy a larger amount of VRAM, go ahead and pay for the Titan. Only way you'll save money on a 1080Ti is if it carries the same VRAM as the 1080.

Maybe after the next Titan comes out (Black or whatever they call it). But not really room for anything between a 1080 and the new Titan. After a Titan with HBM comes out, then I can see a 1080Ti making its way out.

I think almost certainly they will and it will be out within a few months, before December at the latest is my guess. They want to make as much money as possible and there are going to be buyers who won't spend $1200, but will spend say $800 for another GP102.

They have full GP102 dies going into the Quadro cards, defective GP102s going into Titan X. What about the chips that are not good enough for either of those cards ? I doubt AMD even matters at this point for this performance bracket. Let the TX sit for a few months and mop up everyone who was willing right at the outset, or came around to it after some time, to spend the $1200. Then release the 1080ti for less money and cash in again.

I bought a TX today and I'm not sweating it. I know nvidia is going to release something in not too long a time that makes it look like a terrible buy.

Agreed. Why wouldn't Nvidia want to sell 1080ti's? Titan X buys will buy them early and money isn't an objective to them. There will come a time when the Titan X has penetrated it's market. At that point, you sell 1080ti's instead.

I don't see why it won't be like the original Titan and Titan X launches. Launch the Titan card, get the whales and impulse buyers, then 2-3 months later release a Ti version that gets within 5-10% of the Titan's performance to catch the people who want a high-end card but are more price-conscious.

As long as you can admit that then there is nothing wrong with buying a Titan.

I think the real people who got screwed were those who bought the OG Titan expecting it to be the best 28nm GPU ever.
