Do you think this would fly on eBay?

Say that you have a $400 item to sell. eBay listing and final value fees will total about $18, so you have to jack the price of the listing to $418 to cover this cost. But then no one buys it.

Would it be allowed to do a listing like:

Buy it Now: $1 and free shipping.

Listing Title: Information on how to get a Brand New XXXX for $400 Shipped

Listing Details: This is a listing for information on how to buy a brand new XXXX from me for $400 shipped. Item is on hand and ready to ship. When you win this listing I will email you information on how to buy this XXXX from me for $400 shipped.

There's nothing wrong with selling information on eBay.
Is this a legitimate way to bypass eBay final value fees?
It's like a For Sale ad without the eBay final value fees.
Allows you to sell the item $18 cheaper than anyone else.

Go for it. I doubt eBay will care. But a lot of buyers will probably gloss over your listing thinking its a scam.

Why?

It's only $1. Seller has 100% positive feedback. People have bought weirder things than this from eBay. The selling of information is allowed on eBay.

It is NOT an offer to sell the product outside of eBay, because technically the product is the information itself, not the XXXX item.

A lot of 100% feedback accounts get hijacked. I doubt anyone would go for it. Are you that cheap that you feel you have to rip off eBay just to make a sale? Why don't you try selling it on Craigslist? That would be easier and free.

Even when the information is something like "I have the product physically on hand and I can ship it to you for this low price. All you have to do is buy this Buy-It-Now. 6 items in stock."

Craigslist is:

1. Full of scammers.

2. Not a good place for retail.

3. Too limited by location. Cannot list in more than one city at a time.

Why wouldn't anyone go for this? It's only $1 with free shipping. Scamming people out of eighty cents after paypal fees and stuff?

lol, this just feels sooo ghetto. I'll probably do a trial run this weekend or something. Hopefully it sells so quickly that eBay doesn't have time to notice or something.

Ebay fees are pretty bad, but then you add some knuckle-draging n00b trying to make a Credit Card Paypal payment on your NON-CC PP account. Yes, because you don't have $10 in the bank I really want to pay CC fees on ALL my PP transactions from now on.

If nothing else list with a link to where they can buy it directly from you. People selling Real Estate do it all the time.

Depends on what. If it's rare enough I would probably send an email asking for more info.

I miss the old days of eBay, when sellers were more communicative and willing to deal.

Whoa.... I'm thinking it works then...

You still get a few morons that can't see your motive that think you're overcharging for shipping. OMG $400 shipping for a $1 item! Negative feedback!

You forget that the buyer has no protection if they buy the item from you. Hence, most people wouldn't bother bidding on it.

And if the seller rips you off, ebay gives you your $1 back, and you are out $400

wouldn't it be easier to just Buy it Now $1 and set shipping to $400

You'd be more likely to get a bid then your suggested method

When you sell information on e-bay (I do it) you have to send e-bay a copy of the information and have them approve it. I don't think they'd approve this.

But, you can try. If nobody reports you, and you don't get caught, and it works for you, then congrats.

"It is NOT an offer to sell the product outside of eBay..."

That is exactly what it is.

You obviously see the value of reaching Ebay's buying audience, but don't want to pay for using it. Which is basically stealing.

I wouldn't. IF you did that you are not trustworthy. I wouldn't feel safe sending you $400
