4K at Qualcomm in NA (~400 at the San Diego site), a bunch at Intel, AZ, a bunch at Maxim, a bunch at Microsoft, etc.Recession as in layoffs? No not really. I would be surprised. I do however think corporate profitability is going to take a plunge and they won't be able to keep doing the same old cuts and layoffs.
Predicting recessions is like watching a toaster and saying "..nnnnnnnNOW!" every 5 seconds, or doing a rain dance every day in a desert.
Eventually you'll be close enough and declare victory, ignoring the 800 times you were wrong.
Then that ends up being published as "This is the person who predicted the 2009 recession!"
When your neighbor is out of a job, it is a recession. When you are out of a job, it is a depression. Anyway, the government doesn't define a recession that way. It is defined as a decline in the business cycle, as measured by the gross domestic product (GDP). If GDP falls for 2 consecutive quarters, they call it a recession.
While they try to scare us about a depression, they will never call a bad economy a depression. Politicians don't like that word, if they or their buddies are running for re-election. That's true of both parties. Considered to be assured mutual destruction, if that redline in the sand is crossed.
