Do you think we will be in recession by the end of the year?

Recession as in layoffs? No not really. I would be surprised. I do however think corporate profitability is going to take a plunge and they won't be able to keep doing the same old cuts and layoffs.

I think we may be in for some corporate bankruptcies/restructuring which would cause a frenzy of hiring at a competitor. So overall... I think NBD. I think the short term thinking by corporations is going to come home to roost soon. IE I've joined the cable cutters and likely won't ever go back to getting channels broadcast over cable.

Example: http://nypost.com/2015/05/04/cable-giants-losing-tv-subscribers-as-customers-opt-for-online-video/

Revenue can't continue to go up on falling subscribers. I got sick of them constantly messing with my bill and their shitty customer service. I think alot of people are sick of alot more than just comcast though and are at the point now that they are actually willing to make changes.

I suppose you could add McDonalds to the list of companies that have been mismanaged the last couple years and are in a tizzy as well.

Subway keeps opening up new restaurants that are cannibalizing each other all the while the foot traffic is actually headed to chipotle.

I guess that depends on your definition of recession. Are we in a recession now?

Well u guess that depends on who you ask. I know that jobs have returned but good paying jobs haven't.

During the last recession, we had assets to shed. Now here we are several years later and the middle class hasn't regained what it has lost, interest rates are still at rock bottom, our debt is still very high, and the jobs that have returned aren't paying as well. This coupled with problems like student loan debt and extreme inequality makes me worried about another recession so soon after our last one.

It doesn't seem like we have much more that we can afford to lose and that could be disastrous depending on how things play out.

Also it's looking like China is headed toward a great depression of sorts. How that will effect us remains to be seen. It could keep the demand on energy and other commodities low which may in effect lessen the severity of our next economic recession.

If NASA fails to divert the path of that life ending meteor heading directly for earth which is due to hit mid November, no recession.
And if NASA's attempt is successful, no. Still no depression.
Oh boy... I bet I wasn't suppose to let that cat out of the bag, now was I?

Predicting recessions is like watching a toaster and saying "..nnnnnnnNOW!" every 5 seconds, or doing a rain dance every day in a desert.
Eventually you'll be close enough and declare victory, ignoring the 800 times you were wrong.
Then that ends up being published as "This is the person who predicted the 2009 recession!"

When your neighbor is out of a job, it is a recession. When you are out of a job, it is a depression. Anyway, the government doesn't define a recession that way. It is defined as a decline in the business cycle, as measured by the gross domestic product (GDP). If GDP falls for 2 consecutive quarters, they call it a recession.

While they try to scare us about a depression, they will never call a bad economy a depression. Politicians don't like that word, if they or their buddies are running for re-election. That's true of both parties. Considered to be assured mutual destruction, if that redline in the sand is crossed.

No, I don't think we are headed for a recession. Not that I'm overly optimistic either.

I'm living cheap and shedding debt as rapidly as I can afford to. I think the next shitstorm is going to be coming soon. As said earlier, there are simply no assets left to sell. I believe that one of us at least will lose their jobs in the next 2-3 years as companies attempt to shed more cash losses before losing it themselves. Want to get to get back to a single income capable household, even though that means I have to give up my dream of owning a truck again.

Also on that note, this thinking is not helping the economy. I can't feel safe spending on anything, all I can think is getting rid of college debt and not investing a bit of it in the economy.
