Do you tip at Jersey Mikes or Subway?

Got a basic turkey sub at Jersey Mikes (first time at one) for lunch today and when I got my reciept I was surprised there was a spot to write a tip. I paid with a debit card so I signed and didn't write a tip. The cashier gives me a weird look.

As to the cashier giving you a weird look, fuck that guy. Never tip if that guy is around.

Of course, I drop 50 cents ~ $1 in the tip jar (often from my change), depending on how much my order was. Around 10%.

I didn't... Until my son started working at Subway. Then I came to a realization.

If they do a good job, then I drop a dollar in the box. I'm not that stingy where I can't part with a dollar.

I'm not sure why some people think it's absurd to tip.

I get that, but there isn't much room for excellence. A sandwich is either correct, or wrong, and there isn't much room for improvement. Whatever I think of Subway's quality, the assembly has been uniformly competent. I'm not sure how to differentiate between employees.

Well, of course making a sandwich is not rocket science. But even still, some do a better job at it than others. And then there's the friendliness and courtesy aspects.

But whatever, it's a dollar. If I can make an employee's day (who did a good job) a little brighter because I dropped a dollar in a box for him/her, then great.

Again, I'm just not that stingy with a dollar.

Love Jersey Mikes, they are expanding like crazy in California. They are my go to sandwich shop when it comes to sandwiches.

Jersey Mikes > Togo's > Quiznos > Subway.

They are kind of expensive but pretty darn tasty. I would only tip if it were a large order. More than 4 sandwiches or something big.

By the way, they do have mustard and spicy brown mustard but you have to ask for it.
