Do you tip at Sonic drive-in?

Only if they come out on skates and shake their booty in front of me. Of course if they do that while the wife is in the car they automatically lose the tip.

In a sit-down, the waitress usually takes your order, brings your drinks, gives you refills, and checks to make sure everything is okay. At Sonic, they bring you your order.

IIRC Sonic waitstaff are also paid with the expectation that they will make a decent part of their money on tips, but are less tip-dependent than someone at a sit-down restaurant.

not here in az. my cousin worked there, everyone made more than minimum wage. he also told me to never order the hot dogs. ever. i dont tip there, but usually i dont go there either. after hearing some of the stories i almost cant stomach the trip.

After years of commercials on TV, Sonic finally put up a restaurant in the Portland area. And for months afterwards, it was packed. 2-3 hour waits were common. So when the hype finally died down, I went to see what the big deal was all about. And I found out that their food is, in a word, disgusting. I expected fast food and all, maybe a 50s style like Dick's, In-n-out, or Burgerville, but this was nasty. It took like 2 days of downing water to flush all the salt out.

NO. I worked there when I was 16. Car hops make minimum wage. Not that watriess pay of like 2 bucks an hour. So no tip for them.

Heh, my wife and I have a friendly argument about this every time we go to Sonic. I say no tip, she says yes. I tell her that it's a fast food restaurant, and just because they want people on roller skates delivering my food doesn't mean I should tip them. It's the same reason I don't tip at chinese buffetts. I have to get my own food, but you can't put a soda machine next to the bar and let me get my own drink, too? I'm not tipping those fuckers to get me a glass of water when I have to get my own food.
