I don't want a paper trail, I want paper votes. Using electronic voting machines is asking for trouble, and based on recent performances we don't need more election controversy.

Not because they are a backer of bush. There are to many way's it can get screwed up. such as we has seen recently

Prefer the "fill in the circle" optical scan sheets over the touch screens. Easier for recounts , clearer than hole-punch type, voters can easily identify if they screw up a ballot, and I think the average voter trusts this type of ballot which makes for smoother elections.

Electronic voting is a concept whose time should never come.

The first time polling results don't agree with the election returns, there will be no more confidence in the system. As bad as the hanging chad commotion was, you still had access to individual votes. There is also no compelling reason to institute it. It's not as though it takes weeks or days to tally results even for national elections.

People must have confidence that there votes are being correctly recorded and tabulated. As soon as that confidence is shot, we'll have chaos.

I don't see why everyeon does not have electronic voting machines. THey can just be on their own little stand along networks internal to the voting location. Then they could take all the databases collected and merge them into one to tally the votes.

I agree that having them ONLINE is a big mistake because they'd get hacked all over the place. But just getting 10-20 computers and making a mini network woudl work fine. Just have to code something up that has a nic epicture of each person with their name. Touchscreens would be best so old people don't have to figure out that whole Mouse thing. Of course each screen would have to have a "Are you sure?" prompt and then another vote summary at the end. How hard could it be?

Problem with voting is they always have 90 year old people manning the tables, you have to stand in line for an hour, and it's the most boring rediculous thing around. If they stream lined it somehow and made it not so tedious, way more people would vote than do today.
