I'm an accountant, so yes, frequently, every single day. So here's a question for you - when are keyboard manufacturers going to start putting a tab key on the keypad? Seriously, it's just the most irritating thing in the world that I have to reach over my keyboard to hit tab in a spreadsheet. If you don't know why this is irritating, this feature request is not for you.

For me, just as important, when are they going to make number pads big enough for people like me with large hands?

Oddly enough, my big hands do very well on my Monroe business calculator, but my 10-key speed on a keyboard number pad sucks...key placement is part of it...but size is also a factor for me.

Yes.

It's bad enough notebooks don't have them; now lots of newer desktops are coming w/o them too.

I'd probably go out and buy one of those dedicated usb numpads if they started using keyboards without them at our workstations.

I don't use the number pad for keying numbers and I always have num-lock off... I use the number pad for the directional arrows....
When I first started using computers (8086) when I was little, the keyboards had the number pad but not the set of 4 directional keys so I got used to using that...

btw: I also use the page up and page down in the number pad

I hardly use the number pad at home but it's a necessity for our application here at the office.

I use the number pad every day. It's a lifesaver. I'm a billion times faster on the numpad than I am with the stupid numbers above the letters.

I use a numberpad all the time.

That said, my Work laptop is pretty much always hooked up to a keyboard. At home or at work, I've got a Model M or my Das 2 hooked up to it.

Daily. It so much faster than using the row of numbers above the letters. I can't tell you how thrilled I was when I realized the new laptop I bought had a dedicated number pad.

I don't use it often, but the times I do use makes it indispensable. Keyboards w/o numpads = suck

No. But I don't mind having one. I'd buy a tenkeyless unicomp if they made one. I'd get a topre or a filco, but the models I'm interested aren't worth the cost of importing. Yes I'm a keyboard snob so it's mechanical switches only for me. Logitech, apple and other dome/scissor switch boards are garbage, so that limits my options. I'm content with my unicomps for now.

I got the tenkeyless version of Filco Majestouch. The only times I missed the full sized keyboard was extra enter key to the very right side that I used for full screen output on KMP. Took me about a few weeks to get used to, never looked back since.

So to answer the OP, NEVER!
