Do you use Gmail?

Are you using the new-style compose screen that showed up last week?

Have you been sending attachments or images using the web interface?

Please let me know if yours is like this:

Search your mail for "in:trash subject:attachment"

You might see that every attachment or embedded picture you've sent for the last few days has somehow created a separate message for each attachment and moved the message to trash.

...or maybe it's just me.

I really can't understand the point of this except to confuse me and clutter my searches.

I have experienced zero of these things, including this newfangled compose interface.

Yep, I have the same thing.
I have only sent 1 attachment in the last few days, but it is there.

I hope my recipient got it.
I'll send a test message.

Edit: Yep. Just sent a test message. Recipient received it and the attachment. Trash also has the message as you described in OP.

I'm using GMail extensively and sent a couple of different emails with attachments in the past week, both using the 'clip' button and dragging the attachments directly to the message. No such things in the trash.

Sent another test message just now. My Trash is still empty.

Edit: okay, Trash is definitely empty, but searching with the parameter as instructed does show the messages with attachments. wth.

Search for:

in:trash
I don't see it

(in:trash OR in:anywhere)
I see it.

in:trash subject:attachment
I see it.

in:trash has:attachment
I see it.

Yeah. It made me question whether-or-not my attachments reached the intended recipients. Especially because the trashed message shows no recipient at all.

I use Gmail but almost never send messages... the new compose seemed fine.

I still can't stand how it groups emails and displays 'conversations' though. Impossible to see whats going on..

If you're wondering if you recipient received it, why not just send yourself an e-mail with an attachment? I just enabled the new compose, and it seems nifty enough.

You gotta be kidding. Conversation view is the best reason to use Gmail.

A conversation and its messages can exist in multiple places at once because Gmail uses "labels" instead of folders. When I want to delete a conversation, I will not find remnants of it in my Sent Messages and various other folders years later. It deletes it from everywhere it exists.

I can't find an email client with a conversation view feature that even comes close to what Gmail does. With Outlook and other clients that have a so-called "conversation view," I don't see my replies and I still have to go into multiple folders to delete all the messages from a conversation. What good is a "conversation view" that only contains one side of the conversation?

Also, this isn't really about the functionality of the new compose (which, initially, seems to work fine). This is about strange behavior regarding attachments and searching that might coincide with recent changes.

I already know they received it. Now I'm just wondering why Gmail is doing this with the attachments. It's really messing-up some of my searches.

That's one of the things I love about it.
I changed my Outlook settings to do the same thing.

Too bad Outlook doesn't come close since it only shows one side of the conversation and messages still exist in Sent Items (and other folders) after you've deleted the conversation in your Inbox.

It just switched me over to the new compose mode today. Seems nice so far, but need to use it more to get a good feel for it.

Hotmail FTL - For the Lazy

I have accounts on Hotmail, Yahoo, and Gmail. I finally started forwarding everything to my Hotmail. Been using Hotmail since forever, so too lazy to want to get used to a different layout. Hotmail is fickle and rarely works at work cause of outdated IE though.

I kind of preferred Shift-Compose to open a new window. With multiple monitors it was the best way for me. I can still do this, but not yet a fan of the interface. Not all the formatting options (indent specifically) had me turn it back. Once it is fully-baked, I'll be fine with it though.

tried it for while and went back. I use tasks, and it broke the email function on tasks.

Gmail automatically saves stuff as you go, in case you get disconnected. E.g. if you are preparing to compose an e-mail, and you upload a batch of attachments.

Essentially, gmail creates a temporary file for each new item that you upload, compose, start writing, etc. E.g. if you type an e-mail, it'll automatically save it as a draft every 30 seconds or so.

Once you send the message, all the temporary files associated with that message get sent to trash. The catch is that if you search the trash, you'll find them.
