I currently use on board sound and i think it sounds just fine. Why do i use onboard sound. Because i think it sounds fine, and doesn?t cost me any more money.

So what do you use and why?

I?m really curious how many people do indeed use onboard sound, as I get the impression a lot of people detest onboard sound.

I third.

I used onboard fr about 5 months, and it was FINE. But hy settle for fine when you can be blown away by something like an X-fi (yes, proud owner here).

dont need any other software control center or any crap installed. and besides...i like my auto sensing jacks that can be reconfigured as well! i dunno if its standard on all mobos nowadays or not though...

is the audigy 2 ZS/x-fi worth the upgrade? i was planning on just using the onboard sound on the asus p5w dh deluxe mobo whenever i get it.

Used to use onboard audio, one of the cheapo Realtek setups that came with the DFI NF4 boards. It sounded fine to me, but I got an Audigy 2 ZS for $50, so I figured why not? I never benched my games after the switch, but I know I've gained a small percentage in framerates in my games, and the sound quality is a little better.

I use a card because for some reason my motherboard onboard sound crackles and pops at higher volumes. I got the motherboard from a company liquidation and so I can't really return it. Instead I installed a sound card and it works just fine.

I have:
Realtek ALC882D High Definition Audio 8-channel CODEC
Support Multi-streaming, Jack-sensing and Jack-retasking functions
Coaxial, Optical S/PDIF out on back I/O port
Features Dolby Digital Live technology
Whch delivers exellent sound through Creative Cambridge speakers ....No need for a card.

I use a Fortismo III because I had it lying around and it produces better sound through my Klipsch speakers than the onboard sound of my NF3 mobo does, at least in my opinion.

I use onboad sound. I am coming from a system with an Audigy 2. At first I did notice that the sound was not as rich. But now, I think I may have gotten used to it and don't notice much of a difference now. Games sound fine and music sounds fine. I plan on using onboard sound until further notice. That means for a long time.

Sound card here. A2 ZS Platinum. I miss Soundstorm and Realtek is no good IMHO. And on top of that I needed the I/O on the Live Drive. The A2 ZS Platinum was a no brainer for me.

Aside from Creative, who makes a sound card that doesn't drag down system performance in 3D gaming situations?
